While the coursehas been tailored to suit a naval audience, it isjust as relevant for safety managers across allfunctional areas. The delegates are assessed viaopen book assessments throughout the week andcontinuous monitoring of their involvement andengagement in the group workshops.The course aims to provide individuals engagedin <strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Management</strong> with an overall awarenessof the principles and knowledge of practiceswithin <strong>Ship</strong> <strong>Safety</strong> <strong>Management</strong>, as well as anappreciation of the tools and techniques requiredin the development of a safety regime. Thecourse also suits practitioners wanting a betterunderstanding of the application of the theory,to refresh their thinking and maintain theirknowledge in relation to current practices.The course includes hazard identificationtechniques, quantitative and qualitative riskmanagement techniques, underlying riskmanagement principles e.g. ALARP (As Lowas is Reasonably Practicable) and CBA (CostBenefit Analysis), construction of a safetyargument for presenting in a safety case report,role of Human Factors in system safety, andsoftware safety, amongst others. The coursealso gives an introduction to the legislationsurrounding the domain e.g. HSWA, Duty ofCare, Corporate Manslaughter etc. Broaderaspects of maritime safety such as Naval AuthorityRegulations, emergency arrangements, role ofthe ISA (Independent <strong>Safety</strong> Auditor) and cost ofaccidents are also covered. Tutors for this courseare experienced professionals from <strong>Atkins</strong>, andLloyd’s Register.The course starts with Registration on Monday from 08:45 to 09:30.Each of the remaining days start at 08:30 and finish at 17:00, the course finishes by 15:00 on Friday.*Please note the course requires 100% attendance.
