To help you get the mostout of your time at <strong>UCLA</strong>,we offer a variety of oncampushousing options.All are designed withthree things in mind –convenience, comfort, anda sense of community.The Residential Community<strong>UCLA</strong>’s on-campus housing is designed with your daily needsin mind. With your housing and meals taken care of, you are freeto concentrate on being a full-time student. Studies show thatresident students perform better academically, have more contactwith faculty, and are happier with their college experience thanthose who commute.


Living on campusBeing part of a diverse community of 9,400 undergraduatesgives you opportunities for both academic and personalgrowth. You can choose from several coed on-campus options,all of which provide furnished rooms that are wired for basiccable TV and high-speed Internet. Classrooms, libraries, andsports facilities are just a short walk away. The StudentTechnology Center, located in the center of the residentialcommunity, provides a computer workstations, photocopying,faxing, scanning, CD burning, and overnight shipping.RESIDENCE HALLS<strong>UCLA</strong> has four traditional style high-rise residence halls – Dykstra,Hedrick, Rieber, and Sproul – each housing 850 to 950 students. Roomsare shared by two or three students with separate community restroomsand showers for men and women on each floor. Rooms are wired forbasic cable TV and high-speed Internet. Hall amenities also includestudy lounges and laundry facilities on each floor. Most buildings have24-hour front desk services and a residential or boutique restaurant onthe premises or nearby.RESIDENTIAL PLAZASLocated in four different areas within the residential community, theresidential plazas house over 5,000 undergraduates and include SunsetVillage, De Neve Plaza, Hedrick Summit, Rieber Terrace, and Rieber Vista.Rooms are shared by either two or three students, however some plazabuildings also offer suites with single occupancy rooms arranged around asmall, shared living room with two shared bathrooms. All plaza buildingsare air-conditioned and are wired for basic cable TV and high-speedInternet. Each building features study space, lounges, and laundry facilities.Meals are provided in nearby residential or boutique restaurants.RESIDENTIAL SUITESSurrounded by lush courtyards, Hitch Suites and Saxon Suites housemore than 675 students in furnished, two-bedroom suites. Two or threestudents share each bedroom, and each suite has its own entrance, andfeatures a living room and shared bathroom. Bedrooms are wired forbasic cable TV and high-speed Internet. Each suite complex has its ownlaundry room and either a sundeck or a volleyball court, with basketballcourts nearby. Meal service, front desk services, and recreation roomsare conveniently located in the adjacent residence halls.

NON-CAMPUSHOUSINGThe <strong>UCLA</strong> Residential CommunityBUILDING TYPESResidence HallsResidential PlazasResidential SuitesProposedConstructionHOUSING CONSTRUCTION<strong>UCLA</strong> has a tradition of supporting the University’s academic mission through its housing program.In light of growing campus enrollment and increasing numbers of students who want tolive on campus, <strong>UCLA</strong> <strong>Housing</strong> & Hospitality Services (H&HS) is charged with the responsibilityof adding approximately 2,500 bed spaces and renovating existing high-rise residence halls. Thecurrent goal is to complete these projects by the 2017-2018 academic year. These housing projectsare key to the continued growth of <strong>UCLA</strong>'s vibrant student residential community — a livingand learning environment that supports student success and satisfaction.


Hitting the BooksACADEMICS IN THE RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITYLocated in the heart of the residential community, Covel Commons hostsseminars taught by members of <strong>UCLA</strong>’s distinguished faculty, a referencelibrary, learning centers and teaching assistant review sessions. GeneralEducation cluster courses are held in the De Neve Plaza and Northwest<strong>Campus</strong> Auditoriums.<strong>UCLA</strong>’S FACULTY IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM<strong>UCLA</strong> continually seeks to provide residents with academic inspiration andsupport during their time living on campus. <strong>On</strong>e of the primary goals is tohelp promote positive relationships between residents and faculty members.Sixteen faculty members make up the Faculty in Residence Program at <strong>UCLA</strong>.Living along side students in residence halls, they are committed to studentdevelopment and success, providing both formal and informal resident-facultyinteractions in a residential setting.<strong>UCLA</strong>’s Faculty in Residence Program promotes positive relationships between residents andfaculty members outside the classroom.


Safety and SecurityThe University provides a variety of integrated programsand services to help ensure a safe living and learningenvironment. Uniformed police officers, evening van servicebetween campus buildings and on-campus housing, late-nightescort service, RA duty staff and full-time professional live-instaff on-call, and 24-hour electronic access control systems inresidence halls and residential plaza buildings are some of theprograms in place. A variety of safety awareness programsare also offered to educate residents.The Office ofResidential LifeThe Office of Residential Life (ORL) worksclosely with <strong>UCLA</strong> <strong>Housing</strong> to enhanceyour opportunities for academic success,community development, personal growth,and leadership. The ORL staff – whichincludes 45 full-time staff, 350 studentstaff and student leaders and 16 faculty inresidence – is responsible for counseling,crisis management, advising, programming,discipline, emergency response, cable TVstudio, and learning centers. PlayingTaking time out to play provides a needed break from academicsand expands your life beyond your course of study. <strong>On</strong> campus, anarray of recreational facilities are just a short walk away, as arefree outdoor concerts, performances, and sporting events.There is plenty to do –right on campus or stepsaway in Westwood Village.STAYING ACTIVEYou’ll find fitness centers in some residence halls, complete with aerobic exercisemachines; tennis courts and Olympic-size outdoor swimming pools at SunsetCanyon Recreation Center; an outdoor track and intramural fields at DrakeStadium; indoor basketball court, fitness rooms, and handball courts at the JohnWooden Center; and jogging trails within and around the perimeter of the campus.CULTURAL PURSUITSFor those who prefer to spend their free time in more cultural pursuits, the <strong>UCLA</strong>Center for the Performing Arts brings world-class performers to Royce Hallthroughout the year. In nearby Westwood Village, you’ll find some of L.A.’s mostpopular movie theaters screening many first-run films, the Geffen Playhouse whichstages premier theater productions, and the <strong>UCLA</strong> Armand Hammer Museum offeringworld-class art exhibitions.
