However, he saysthey’d been selling the unitsto AquaComfort for about 18months, then in Septemberlast year the distributor saidthey had defect issues andwouldn’t pay.The units are not Compu Poolbranded units, but AquaComfort’sown brand made to Aqua-Comfort’s own specifications.“It’s got nothing to do withCompu Pool in Australia – it’svery removed,” he says.AquaComfort had sold morethan 1500 Compu Pool brandedchlorinators in 2010, but in 2011came to Compu Pool with theirown specifications for a privatelybranded product. Approximately450 units were manufactured anddelivered to AquaComfort. However, the units werenot paid for, and legal proceedingsensued.“If you had a few units thatdidn’t work, you wouldn’t refuseto pay for the whole consignment,”says Millar, who adds thathe believes the number of defectiveunits has been exaggeratedby AquaComfort.Millar claims the melting ofthe units was to do with faultyinstallation leading to gas traps.“Even so, there was never anydanger of the units catching onfire as they are made with flameretardants. They might look awfulbut they can’t catch on fire.”He also says that the firsttime he saw the images shownin the US magazine was whenit was published, and cannotverify them.Compu Pool attempted to getthe list of purchasers of the unitsto they could talk to each customerand determine an accuratefailure rate, but AquaComfortrejected that offer.“I’m reluctant to say toomuch until we’ve gone to court,”says Millar. He expects thecourt case to be resolved by theend of the year.Keep informed bysubscribing to the freeonline newsletter.Top five online news storiesThe most popular online news stories at splashmagazine.com.au were...1.
