<strong>Northrop</strong> <strong>Grumman</strong> Retirement Plan<strong>Part</strong> A Benefit DescriptionJanuary 2008during <strong>the</strong> calendar year in which your FMLA begins. However, if you do not need <strong>the</strong> hoursof service <strong>to</strong> prevent a break in service during that year, <strong>the</strong> hours of service are credited<strong>to</strong>ward <strong>the</strong> following calendar year.Final Average EarningsFor pension purposes, your final average earnings (FAE) is:• If you terminate on or after January 1, 2006: The average of your three highest-paidyears during which you were an eligible employee of <strong>Northrop</strong> <strong>Grumman</strong> after 1996• If you terminated prior <strong>to</strong> January 1, 2006: The average of your three highest-paid yearsduring <strong>the</strong> last ten consecutive years in which you were an eligible employee.For earnings effective January 1, 1995* through December 31, 2003: Your compensationfor each year prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> year in which you terminate employment includes:• Your annualized base rate of pay as of December 31 plus• Any o<strong>the</strong>r pension-eligible compensation, such as bonuses, commissions, overtime ando<strong>the</strong>r specified items paid during <strong>the</strong> year.Years prior <strong>to</strong> 1995, as well partial years of compensation, are considered when determiningFAE.The following are not included when determining your FAE:• Years in which you receive no compensation• Years in which you are not eligible <strong>to</strong> participate in <strong>the</strong> Plan• Compensation earned prior <strong>to</strong> 1989.For earnings beginning January 1, 2004: Your compensation includes your actualpension-eligible earnings paid during <strong>the</strong> year. Please see <strong>the</strong> “Compensation” sub-sectionunder <strong>the</strong> “Transition <strong>Benefits</strong>” section of <strong>the</strong> Pension Program SPD for more information.* For <strong>the</strong> definition of compensation prior <strong>to</strong> 1995, please call <strong>the</strong> NGBC at 1-800-894-4194.What Is Pension-Eligible Compensation?Prior <strong>to</strong> January 1, 2004, <strong>the</strong> definition of pension-eligible compensation for FAE purposesincludes <strong>the</strong> following annual amounts:• Base pay and shift differentials• Performance-related bonuses and commissions• Retention bonus• Vacation and holiday pay• Overtime• Overseas allowance.The following items are not included in pension-eligible compensation:• Signing bonus• Relocation reimbursements• Termination bonuses or severance payments10
