S A B R I Y A HorKwIDF GC1Project UpdateThe KwIDF GC1 pilot has started to implement Digital Fieldtechnology and processes in the Burgan oilfield for wellsconnected to Gathering Center 1 [GC1].This is the first of a series of regular project updates.The GC1 project teamKOC has put together a strong project teamunder the leadership of Mr Ahmad Al-Jasmi.Digital WellsTo get the right data at the right place and theright time, KOC is working with its strategicpartner, Weatherford, to add advancedfield hardware to those wells connectedto Gathering Center 1 [GC1]. This will alsoprovide an element of remote control of thewells to optimize production.The first digital well [BG-136] shown oppositewent live in August and a second digital well[BG-286] in September. Data from these wellsis now available in Building B6 in real time.All 53 wells connected to GC1 are expected tobe completed by the end of December.Data backboneA data backbone delivers real time data fromthese wells integrating it with data fromother applications. The use of data modellingand visualization creates an information richenvironment.The IT infrastructure is in place; work flowshave been created and are being finalized.Two examples where work on applicationshas progressed are:• i-DO for displaying the real time data, where ademonstration has been completed satisfactorily• LOWIS [Life of WellInformation Software]:a web-based wellmanagement suitedesigned to reduce liftingcosts, optimize workflowsand minimize the financialriskCollaboration CentreKwIDF GC1 is building anew Collaboration Centerusing state of the arttechnology and design.This allows users to displayinformation clearly, run meetings immediatelyor as needed, communicate with other expertsin the Collaboration Center and link on videowith the Decision Centers in the field.A design for the Collaboration Center is underreview and work has begun on preparing alocation in Building B6.The anticipated completion date for the newCenter is 31st December.Change programmeIn addition to evaluating the new, state of theart digital systems and equipment, anotherimportant objective is to evaluate the impacton the workforce. A significant changemanagement programme is needed toimplement KwIDF GC1 successfully and thenextend it within South & East Kuwait. Earlyactivities include:• Two Newsletters distributed in Septemberand October;• Strategic Briefing sessions to be run inOctober;• “Lunch and Learn” sessions to be run fromOctober to December.S A B
