And they said: “O our Rabb,why have You made fighting compulsory upon us? If only you hadgiven us some respite.The aayah refers to the Makkan era when the Muslims were commandedto involve themselves in S<strong>al</strong>aah and Zakaah. Due to certain expediencies,they were commanded to restrain themselves and not wage Jihaad. Duringthis period, a group <strong>of</strong> Muslims expressed their <strong>ar</strong>dent desire to fight themushrikeen.
