The following conditions prevailed at the time this book was written.> No Muslim doctor is present on the battlefield, except for about tenAfghani doctors. There <strong>ar</strong>e about a thousand battlefronts. This is so eventhough the battlefront is sw<strong>ar</strong>ming with mission<strong>ar</strong>y delegations and a fewportable hospit<strong>al</strong>s from America, France, Germany and Britain.> Not a single Muslim reporter can be found whereas many Westernreporters and News Agency correspondents can be seen.> Many Mujaahideen sh<strong>ar</strong>e shoes. Those who go to the battlefront we<strong>ar</strong>the shoes and those who remain behind, do so b<strong>ar</strong>efoot.> At the W<strong>ar</strong>sak camp, three months <strong>of</strong> winter passed over 4000Mujaahideen in which not a single Mujaahid had a blanket or a tent. WhenShaik Naasir-ur-Rasheed, the treasurer <strong>of</strong> the Saudi Red Crescent saw theirplight, he purchased for them, from his person<strong>al</strong> funds, a thousand tentswith blankets. May Allaah Ta’<strong>al</strong>a rew<strong>ar</strong>d him a thousand fold. Simil<strong>ar</strong>ly, themajor portion <strong>of</strong> winter passed over 2500 mujaahideen at the Abu BakrAs-Siddeeq camp without any tent or covering. They did not even have asingle blanket amongst them. This was their condition until Shaik Naasirur-Deenstumbled upon them, and purchased their needs from his ownpocket.> The toes <strong>of</strong> many Mujaahideen have f<strong>al</strong>len <strong>of</strong>f due to the snow and ice[i.e. frostbite]. This was so since their shoes were frail and tattered, unableto protect them from the effects <strong>of</strong> the snow. The price <strong>of</strong> a pair <strong>of</strong> shoesis at least a hundred Pakistani rupees, and there <strong>ar</strong>e a million Mujaahideen.They will thus require at least a hundred million rupees for their shoes<strong>al</strong>one. Gener<strong>al</strong>ly, a pair <strong>of</strong> shoes only lasts for one battle.> Muhammad Siddeeq, the leader <strong>of</strong> the Kabul district, reported to me: Isaw a woman abandoning one <strong>of</strong> her sons in the snow since she could not63
