kNIVERSflUJSWdLUMBI1The Publications Board(Co,,tjnued from Pr,ge ‘line, c;-t ma)rank of reporters after Christmas. Celia Lucas as Office Assistantfulfilled a very essential service in a capable manner, and it was onlythrough her efforts that the ten o’clock copy was ready at the zerohour.Reporters throughout the year have been a somewhat doubtfulquantity, here today and gone tomorrow. However, among thosewho have been outstanding may be mentioned: Virginia Cummings,Betty Gourre, Kim Killam and Arnold White. Others who havedone good work during all or part of the year include: Pat Kerr,Bill Cameron, Kay Greenwood, Ted Denne, Jim Miller, AgnesDavies, Doug. Perkins, Mary Cook and Kay Macrae.A review of the personnel of the Pub. would be incompletewithout some mention of the members who contributed the twofeatures of the paper, namely Ron Grantham, the able author of“Pipe and Pen,” and Wesley Tavender the cartoonist. Grantham’scolumn has frequently been referred to as “the most interestingdepartment of the paper,” while Tavender’s topical drawings havebrightened up the sheet to a remarkable degree. Never before hasthe Ubyssey been so fortunate in its art contributors.Totem Staff(Conti,,ued iron, Page Ni,,er j)Laurel Rowntree, as Assistant Editor, was kept busy clarifyingthe many and varied bits of “information about oneself” as submitted by dignified Seniors. Added to this she assisted with therevision of “class and club” copy, and when driven to despair, vented her wrath on any unfortunate male habitues within strikingdistance.Leona Nelson made history in one or two instances by telephoning a man’s wife and asking for him by his Christian nameand in writing a feature article on ‘‘Totem” troubles for the“Ubyssey,’’ She breezed in every so often after a futile quest forlate write-ups with some gem of wit most disconcerting to the moreserious ones.Much credit is due the staff for the very efficient way in whichthey have completed an extremely difficult piece of work.[ 93]
