J..-TInterscholastic Canadian RugbyHE Interscholastic Canadian Rugby team worked hard this yearOnly three teams wereentered in this league: Vancouver College, Magee High School andVarsity. Varsity played its first game on October 14 and defeatedVancouver College, last year’s champions 10-8 after a hard-foughtbattle. This was Varsity’s first and only victory. We were neverdecisively beaten, but the other teams were just a little better in theirEach team played the other teams twiceand the Le Bray Trophy, emblematic of league championship, waswon by Magee High School. Incidentally, Magee received coachingfrom our own Dr. Burke, Joe Price and Clare Donaldson.but victory did not come our way.co-ordination on the field.The closeness of the scores indicates the evenness of these teamsand Varsity’s failure may be attributed to the injudicious mixtureof raw material with seasoned Senior City players.The failure of Freshmen to turn out in sufficient numbers tomake a whole team was disappointing, but we hope this will beremedied next year as the game increases in popularity.Among the Freshmen, Beaumont, Rush, Odium, Poole andMather played consistently well. Morrow, Hisette and Knightstepped down from Senior City company to lend a hand.The whole team is to be praised for their spirit on the fieldand for their regular attendance at practices.The team was ably managed by Arnie Cliff.I13 j
