Job DescriptionPosition Title:Department:Network AdministratorInformation Technology ServicesDate: May, 2013 FLSA Status: ExemptPosition Overview: Supports and maintains network systems in the organization by providinginstallation, maintenance, troubleshooting and resolution of hardware, software, and communicationsissues as well as develops new system designs. Maintains data centers and data wire closets. Thisposition reports to the Director of Infrastructure Support, Information Technology Services.Required Qualifications:• Two or more years of networking and computer support or related experiencerequired.• Capable of designing, setting up and configuring network switching environments.• Capable of designing, setting up and configuring wireless networking that supportopen and secured access and the ability to support voice and video applications.• Knowledge of data center operations and best practices.• Ability to work independently and with teams.• A customer oriented attitude and desire to help others succeed.• Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.• Personal and professional integrity which communicates a sense of mission,leadership, and ability to self-start.• An uncompromising commitment to student learning through the college's mission,vision, values and the delivery of instruction.• A demonstrated positive and proactive approach in identifying problems, creatinginnovative solutions.• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, Power Point and Excel isrequired.Preferred Qualifications:• An associate degree in Computer Information Technology or related field.• Cisco networking experience and certifications.• Experience in maintaining network security through proper configuration of VPNand Firewalls.• Proven ability to deal effectively, cooperatively, and tactfully with faculty, staff,administrators, students, and community representatives.• Familiarity with Cisco Unified Communication Manager configuration andinfrastructure.• Experience in an educational environment• Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.• A demonstrated positive and proactive approach in identifying problems, creatinginnovative solutions, and managing projects.


• Evidence of a career that includes flexibility and willingness to change; openmindedness,fairness, and the ability to see multiple perspectives; a willingness to takerisks; and a willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.• Ability to prioritize, schedule, and meet deadlines.Position Expectations:Essential Job Duties• Supports data and voice network systems at all locations within the college includingcommunications equipment, cabling, and related infrastructure.• Assembles LAN/WAN equipment on computer systems according to established designspecifications.• Performs monitoring of network systems to ensure they are available for college business inaccordance with Service Level Agreements.• Troubleshoots and provides remedies to network problems for internal and remote users.• Recommends and installs upgrades and new applications and equipment.• Completes installation and swap-out of network hardware including routers, switches andother communication gear.• Documents and maintains system configurations for disaster recovery.• Maintains data centers and data wiring closets using best practices and in a professionalmanner.• May perform other duties as required.Analytical Skills:• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints.• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability tointerpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form anddeal with several abstract and concrete variables.• Uses intuition and experience to complement data.• Demonstrated flexibility to changing priorities.• Will be required to work outside of Normal Business hours, primarily in the event of anemergency or implementation of new systems/upgrades which will need to be done afterhours.• On-call support that may involve night or weekend coverage as assigned.Technical Skills:• Working knowledge of Cisco routing, switching and VoIP.• Working knowledge of Cisco Call Manager, Unity Voicemail and Presence.• Working knowledge of Cisco ASA firewalls.• Working knowledge of the following routing protocols: EIGRP, OSPF & BGP.• Working knowledge of structured cable systems including Category 5e/6 and Single-modeand Multi-mode fiber.An uncompromising commitment to SPCC as a Learning <strong>College</strong> through the <strong>College</strong>’smission, vision, values, core learning outcomes, and delivery of instruction and services.
