Sending the distress acknowledge call to ship in distress (on MF band)<br />
4. DISTRESS OPERATIONS<br />
Note: You cannot send the distress acknowledge call for five minutes because of receiving<br />
the distress acknowledgement from the coast station.<br />
Transmit the distress acknowledge call to the ship in distress only when you do not receive<br />
it from a coast station and you are able to aid the ship in distress. First, transmit the<br />
distress acknowledge to the ship in distress by telephone. To terminate transmission of the<br />
distress alert, send acknowledge call as follows.<br />
The audio alarm sounds and the display shows the message “Distress alert message<br />
received.” When your ship receives a distress alert.<br />

2. If you do not receive the distress acknowledge call from a coast station and you<br />
have received the distress alert more than twice, contact the ship in distress over<br />
radiotelephone.<br />
3. If the distress alert continues, terminate the alert by rotating the ENTER knob to choose<br />
ANSWER, push the ENTER knob and then go to step 4 to send the distress<br />
acknowledge call to the ship in distress.<br />
4. Push the ENTER knob to open the MSG TYPE menu.<br />
