<strong>Head</strong> <strong>Coach</strong> - <strong>Dave</strong> <strong>Mieras</strong><strong>Coach</strong> <strong>Mieras</strong> is in his first season as head coach of the Women’sJayhawk Tennis Team. A USTA member, he was the assistantcoach for the MCC team for the past two seasons. Previouslyhe coached for a number of years at Mona Shores High School.A graduate of Central Michigan University, <strong>Coach</strong> <strong>Mieras</strong> has amasters degree in Physical Education and Counseling and wasa varsity athlete for the Chippewas. He is a veteran school administratorin the <strong>Muskegon</strong> area. Prior to joining the coachingstaff at <strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> he was the principal atOakridge High School.Assistant <strong>Coach</strong> - Doug Poort<strong>Coach</strong> Poort is a former captain of the Western Michigan UniversityTennis Team and has four Mid-American Conference Titles.For many years he was the Tennis Pro at <strong>Muskegon</strong> Country Club,McGraft Park, and coached football and tennis at <strong>Muskegon</strong> Orchard ViewHigh School. A number of his students stayed with tennis after graduation.Most notably are Rick Westof, Director of Tennis, Bath & Racquet Club ofSarasota, Fl; John Trump, <strong>Head</strong> Pro at Midtown Racquet Club of Chicago,IL and Jim Buck Jr., <strong>Head</strong> Pro at Long Island Yacht Club, Long Island, NY.Poort was named 45’s (age 45 and over) Midwest Player of the Year in1990 and was ranked nationally No. 1 in 50’s doubles in 1991 by theUnited State Professional Tennis Association. He was the <strong>Head</strong> Pro atDeland Country Club in Florida in the 1980’s, winning the Florida StateChampionships in the 35’s and 45’s age category. He has won the State ofMichigan’s 55’s title in both Singles and Doubles and represented Michiganat the Senior Olympic Games.
