<strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>2011-2012 Women’s Softball Assistant Coach~Colleen MorseCoach Morse is in her second stint with theJayhawk softball program. Previously sheserved as both the assistant coach and as thehead coach. She got her start in coachingat Oakridge High School, where she had theopportunity to coach JV softball. She has alsobeen a volunteer with the Athletic Departmentfor many years.Colleen has been employed at <strong>Muskegon</strong><strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> for 31 years. She is agraduate of Oakridge High School where sheexcelled at basketball and track for four years.She has played recreation softball for over30 years and has been a part of a number ofteams that have competed and won statechampionships both in women’s softball andco-ed softball. She is married to Rick and has one son, Ryan Schalk, who isa student at GVSU.


<strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>2011-2012 Women’s Softball Assistant Coach~Ryan SchalkCoach Schalk is starting his fourth season as avolunteer assistant with the Jayhawks. He worksprimarily with the infielders and bunter/slapperswhile coordinating multiple fundraisers for theteam. He also is the head JV Girls Basketballcoach at Reeths-Puffer High School. Ryan hasworked with both boys and girls of all age groupsas a basketball, baseball and softball coach. Forthe past three summers Ryan has organized andrun the Lakeshore Summer Softball Camp at<strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>. He also previouslyorganized a basketball camp at Oakridge HighSchool. This past year, he became the Director ofFast Pitch Softball at Softball World in <strong>Muskegon</strong>.He started a fall fast pitch league for middleschool and high school ages this past year and willbe expanding on that this year including runningan 18 and up fast pitch league. He is also an instructor for Michigan Blue ChipSoftball Camps which is a camp business that runs college exposure campsthroughout the state of Michigan.Ryan graduated from Oakridge High School in 2005 where he played basketballand baseball for four years. His baseball career was highlighted by advancingto the State Semi-Finals in 2004. His Senior year he earned various honorsincluding all conference, all district, and all area as an infielder. Ryan wasnominated as the Male Athlete of the year for the <strong>Muskegon</strong> Sports Hall ofFame as well as Showcase Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year atOakridge High School. He was also Academic All Conference in basketballand graduated 8th in his class.Ryan attended <strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> where he received his Associatesdegree in Science and Arts in 2008. He currently attends Grand Valley StateUniversity where he is pursuing a degree in education.


<strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>2011-2012 Women’s Softball Assistant Coach ~ Kelsey BandstraCoach Bandstra is starting her first season coachingwith the Jayhawks after previously playing the pasttwo years for Coach Houseman. She was part ofthe 2010 National Championship Team, and in 2011the team finished as Co-Conference Champions.Her responsibilities this year are working withpitchers and helping the team in any other way.She also is a pitching instructor at Extra Inningswhere she trains pitchers of all ages.Kelsey graduated from Rogers High School in2009 where she played softball and bowled for fouryears. Her Junior year her softball team finishedRunners- Up in the State Tournament. She wasnamed First Team All Conference for 3 years, andFirst Team All State her Junior and Senior year.Her bowling team made it to state all 4 years forteam event and individuals. Every year her team finished in the top 8, and sheindividually finished in the top 10. After high school Kelsey played on a Big-League World Series Team in 2010. Her team went on to win the World Seriesbeating the Philippines 14-4.Kelsey currently attends <strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> finishing up herassociates degree, and plans to attend Davenport University to study SportsManagement.


<strong>Muskegon</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>2011-2012 Women’s Softball Assistant Coach~Tom GallowayThis is Coach Galloway’s first year as assistantcoach on the Jayhawk staff and 8th year of coachingorganized softball. Coach Galloway works withthe catchers and is one of the hitting coaches.Previously he has served as Head Coach of the<strong>Muskegon</strong> Catholic Central varsity team and wasa finalist for Division 3-4 Coach of the Year in2011. Coach Galloway is also the head coach ofa highly decorated travel ball team known as theWest Michigan Sabercats and currently serves asVice President for the association. He is also thefounder of West Michigan Fastpitch which is a nonprofitorganization that funds training for youngathletes across West Michigan. Coach Gallowaycoaches recreational softball, as well, and is a boardmember of Mona Shores Youth Softball.Tom is a graduate of Jenison High School and Lansing <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong>.After graduation, Tom was employed as a full time firefighter for the City of<strong>Muskegon</strong> from which he retired in 2003, after serving 10 years. Tom and hiswife, Ellen, currently own and operate Galloway Custom Homes. They have 6children who attend <strong>Muskegon</strong> Catholic Central and range in age from 13-4years old.
