3Since early October, the ec<strong>on</strong>omic developmentactivities of the Alliance have been moving at a quickpace. On November 8th, <str<strong>on</strong>g>Plumrose</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>USA</str<strong>on</strong>g> broke ground<strong>on</strong> a <strong>$70</strong> milli<strong>on</strong> state-of-the-art, LEED certified,coldcut slicing and packaging facility. The new facilityis located at South 32nd Street and 21st Avenue andwill be their sec<strong>on</strong>d plant in<strong>Council</strong> <strong>Bluffs</strong>. The openingfor this building is plannedfor October of 2012 and willbring over 100 new jobs toour community. In additi<strong>on</strong>,Terry Bailey and I have beenfollowing up with severalother manufacturing and ITcompanies looking at <strong>Council</strong><strong>Bluffs</strong> as a place to set up theiroperati<strong>on</strong>s. We are workingwith the State to developincentive packages that will helpprospects in their decisi<strong>on</strong> toWILLIAM STAZZONIVice President ofEc<strong>on</strong>omic Developmentlocate here.This new activity coupledwith our existing businessplanned expansi<strong>on</strong> haspushed our Workforce Development Team to movequickly and look for training soluti<strong>on</strong>s to fill the levelof technical jobs these companies require. We arelooking into using the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Career Readiness TestCertificate as a gauge to help potential employeesidentify their skill sets and to help the companiessearch for qualified employees that match these skillsets to the job. We c<strong>on</strong>tinue to work with our K-12schools and Iowa Western Community College tocreate training programs to fill these and future need.All of this is <strong>on</strong> the heels of a very intense summeras the river waters threatened our levee system.
