His m<strong>at</strong>ernalgrandmother is Ruth Osceola of the ImmokaleeReserv<strong>at</strong>ion and his p<strong>at</strong>ernalgrandparents are Jimmy Hank and MarieOsceola of Hollywood.Osceola gradu<strong>at</strong>ed with a near-perfect<strong>at</strong>tendance record, something hismother <strong>at</strong>tributes to her encouragementand his independence.The commencement ceremonywas an emotional experiencefor the 18-year-old.“It was the best feeling ofmy life,” she said. “I almoststarted crying when I went onstage. All th<strong>at</strong> hard work finallypaid off.”Young was accepted to theUniversity of Miami where shewill study biology and pursue acareer in medicine.Osceola is the daughter ofHollywood Tribal CouncilRep. Max. B. OsceolaJr. and wife, Marge. Sheplayed basketball duringall four years <strong>at</strong> PineCrest. She also went on toset the school record forthe female player with themost points and steals in aseason.In May, Osceola alsowas recognized in the MiamiHerald’s All-BrowardAthletic awards. Shewas chosen first team allcounty in fast-pitch softballand also had the distinctionof being selectedfor the Sun-Sentinel’s firstteam honors in the sport.Her f<strong>at</strong>her called hereduc<strong>at</strong>ional achievements onemore step toward a collectivevision for the <strong>Seminole</strong> Tribe.“I’m proud of every <strong>Seminole</strong>,”Rep. You have to work for wh<strong>at</strong> you want and youhave to be responsible.”Craig said she plans to <strong>at</strong>tend Indian River St<strong>at</strong>e Collegein Ft. Pierce, Fla. and to then transfer to University ofOklahoma to study psychology.While in high school Craig served as treasurer for studentgovernment. She was also the captain for both the girlsand the boys varsity volleyball teams.Craig was the first girl to ever play on the boys’ basketballteam.“Everyone underestim<strong>at</strong>ed me,” Craig said. “They allthought I couldn’t c<strong>at</strong>ch up with them because I was a girl.”Throughout the season Craig scored more than 40points for the team.Rhiannon Tiger Gradu<strong>at</strong>es High SchoolBY ELIZABETH LEIBAStaff ReporterHOLLYWOOD — RhiannonTiger became the first of four sistersto gradu<strong>at</strong>e high school in a commencementceremony for CooperCity High School’s Class of 2009seniors on May 31 <strong>at</strong> the NovaSoutheastern University Convoc<strong>at</strong>ionCenter.Tiger was one of more than 500gradu<strong>at</strong>es to receive her diplomaand had the distinction of achievingthe Principal’s Honor Roll in eachgrading period of her senior year.The 17-year-old is the daughterof Charlie and Rachel Tiger. Hermother said she was pleased herdaughter reached this milestone.“I was overjoyed,” she said.Tiger said she plans to <strong>at</strong>tendBroward College for her firstyear and then transfer to an out ofst<strong>at</strong>e university.
