<strong>Sabah</strong> <strong>Forest</strong>ry DepartmentEnvironmental & Conservation Day at POIC, Lahad DatuReplanting of mangrove seedlings<strong>Mangrove</strong> Replanting Program In Lahad Datu (2008)In Lahad Datu, the replanting ceremony was held inconjunction with the environmental and conservation day.A total of 550 mangrove seedlings were planted in 2008covering a rocky area of 3 ha adjacent to the POIC, LahadDatu and Lahad Datu FR. The planting site is located at thePalm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC), Lahad Datu. Seedlingsused were Bakau Kurap (Rhizophora mucronata) andBakau Minyak (Rhizophora apiculata) with planting distanceof 3m x 3m.Students taking part in the planting activity<strong>Mangrove</strong> Replanting Program in Kunak (2008)In Kunak, encroachment is the most serious threat to themangroves with not less than one thousand hectareshaving been degraded due to conversion to illegal oil palmand illegal shrimp ponds.
