<strong>NUIT</strong>, working with the Office of the Controller, completeda migration of new processes and systems for the StudentLoan Office, including work to:• upgrade the <strong>Northwestern</strong> <strong>University</strong> Clinical andTranslational Sciences Institute (NUCATS) system toproduce promissory notes, disburse student loans, andimprove data encryption;2007 Achievements and ActivitiesStaff and the Environment forEffective Administration• convert NUCATS and the new Campus Partners systemto increase data security, replacing Social SecurityNumbers with employee IDs in loan numbers; and• complete high-level functional requirements for theLoan Distribution System to replace NUCATS.Work continued on eDevelopment, a new Web-based,<strong>University</strong>-wide training management system. Supportedby <strong>NUIT</strong>’s HRIS team, the new system allows staff andfaculty to:• locate and register for required training quickly;• track training requirements for certificationsand licensing;• notify faculty and staff of required retraining;• confirm staff training needs; and• make successful completion of training a prerequisitefor enterprise system access.The system will be implemented as part of HRIS Self Servicein September 2007.Outsourcing OpportunitiesServices that were once thought to be necessary componentsof <strong>University</strong>-owned infrastructure are being redefined byadvanced Web-based capabilities and new delivery models.At <strong>Northwestern</strong>, extensive consultation and input fromthe <strong>University</strong> community resulted in a new agreementwith Google to provide enhanced e-mail and collaborationservices to students. This groundbreaking relationshipbenefits the <strong>University</strong> by reducing costs, redirectingresources, improving student services, and facilitatingongoing connections with alumni.The new service, @u.northwestern.edu, was rolled out inJune 2007. Undergraduate and eligible degree-seekingstudents were able to choose to activate a new e-mail andcollaboration account. In August, the School of Law beganparticipation in the program and created a new domain,@nlaw.northwestern.edu. Plans continued to add moreusers to the service, including all incoming undergraduatestudents and students from the Graduate School in fiscalyear 2008.Created a new online order form for the CONDUITSOnline system (Customer Oriented NetworkDelivering <strong>University</strong> <strong>Information</strong> TechnologyServices) to enhance the accuracy and efficiency ofprocessing requests for <strong>NUIT</strong> services.Added additional support resources to the <strong>NUIT</strong>Support Center to handle first- and second-levelcomputer support calls for the new FinancialManagement System (FMS). An additional agreementis in place to provide help desk functions for theOffice for Research electronic Institutional ReviewBoard (eIRB) system.Handled more than 28,672 support calls at the<strong>NUIT</strong> Support Center and 238 Laptop ER technicalsupport visits in 2007.Expanded departmental computing and serversupport by signing workstation support agreementswith the Budget Office and Medical Schooldepartments.Continued support for the new ResidentialManagement System (RMS) and its interface withStudent Enterprise System (SES) for theHousing Office.Participated in a special closed pilot of the new<strong>University</strong>-level Web content management system(WCMS) led by <strong>University</strong> Relations. <strong>NUIT</strong> completedsystem implementation and migration of the <strong>NUIT</strong>Web site, including developing new templates,permissions, and work flow processes.<strong>NUIT</strong> is committed to establishing and maintaining strongpartnerships with technology vendors who support missioncritical<strong>University</strong> systems. These relationships are invaluableto supporting the strategic goals of <strong>NUIT</strong> and the HighestOrder of Excellence II.
