ShorelinesMacBeach Volunteers... Priceless!On February 28,more than 100volunteers,their spouses,and Park staffcelebrated atthe MacArthurBeach StatePark Annual Vol- unteer AwardsDinner, held at the North Palm Beach CountryClub. Thirty-two volunteers were honored, whohave given a total of 10,350 hours of serviceto the Park, whether driving the tram, leadingnature walks, teaching children, serving on the FriendsBoard of Directors, or assisting in the Nature Center.Board member, Larry Harjehausen, who began hisvolunteer career at the Park as a Friday morning tram driverin 1991, received his 3000 hour pin. Running a close secondwas nature walk leader, Florida historian, and wonderfulstory teller, Dan West, with 2500 hours. Sunday morningtram driver Dick Weiser has given 2000 hours sincehe joined the Park in 1990. Joan Edelman has spent 1500hours assisting Wednesday morning visitors at the NatureCenter. John Murray has driven the tram for 1000 hourson Thursday mornings. ShorelinesTouch the Earth: Summer Day Camps at MacBeachMarine Biology Summer Day Camp offers rising 6th,7th and 8th graders a rare opportunity to learn about marineenvironment of our Park through snorkeling, kayakingand mudflat walking. Campers must come with anenthusiasm for learning, willingness to explore, and beconfident swimmers, who are comfortable swimming inthe ocean. Snorkel equipment will NOT be provided.A lifeguard will be present for all snorkeling activities.Snacks will be provided daily. Cost: $95 per session,one session per child.Session I: July 12-16, 8:00-NoonSession II: July 19-23, 8:00-NoonSession III: July 26–30, 8:00-NoonJunior Ranger Summer Day Camp offers rising4th and 5th graders the opportunity to learn aboutthe biological communities in coastal southeastFlorida. Campers will explore the beach, hike, andsnorkel the reef in search of tropical fish. Snackswill be provided daily. Cost: $80 per session.June 21-25, 8:00-NoonThe Little Turtle Art Summer Day Campis designed for rising 2nd and 3rd graders.The camp offers a variety of crafts,games and stories based on a NativeAmerican theme.
