and Soul Beach Party <strong>to</strong> <strong>your</strong> calendar <strong>for</strong><br />

July 28th, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at the Alliant<br />

Amphitheater.<br />

Put on <strong>your</strong> Hawaiian shirt, <strong>your</strong> deck shoes<br />

or flip flops, and come enjoy some good good<br />

music, food, drinks and fun. Music from the<br />

60’s, 70’s and 80’s by Risky Bizness (from<br />

Chicago) starting at 6:30 p.m. Food, beer, wine,<br />

Lime-a-rita’s, and soft drinks available. (Sorry,<br />

no carry-ins). Great games and fun <strong>for</strong> all ages.<br />

You’re going <strong>to</strong> love the band. Risky Business is<br />

fantastic. They play everything from the Beach<br />

Boys, Van Morrison, Rod Stewart, and Elvis <strong>to</strong><br />

the Rolling S<strong>to</strong>nes, Jimmy Buffet, Buddy Holly,<br />

Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clap<strong>to</strong>n, The Beatles<br />

and more. This group has wowed <strong>Dubuque</strong> in<br />

the past and you’re sure <strong>to</strong> have a great time.<br />

$5 donation at the door. All proceeds go <strong>to</strong><br />

bene<strong>fit</strong> Hills and Dales and other Rotary philanthropies.<br />

THE GREAT CARDBOARD BOAT RACE<br />

Sunday, July 29<br />

From 1:00-5:00 p.m. enjoy the <strong>Dubuque</strong><br />

Marina and Yardarm’s cardboard boat race.<br />

Located at Ext. 1201 Shiras Ave., <strong>Dubuque</strong>,<br />

the event will also feature water games, food,<br />

prizes, drinks, and a dunk tank. A raffle will give<br />

away three overnight stays at Four Mounds.<br />

Fort Myers-based band Yard Dogs will provide<br />

music beginning at 3:00 p.m. The event is free<br />

<strong>to</strong> attend and boat entries (open <strong>to</strong> everyone)<br />

DUBUQUE MUSEUM OF ART EVENTS & EXHIBITS<br />

Iowa’s oldest cultural institution established in 1874 located in the heart of down<strong>to</strong>wn <strong>Dubuque</strong>’s<br />

cultural corridor. The <strong>Dubuque</strong> Museum of Art seeks <strong>to</strong> excite, engage, and educate constituents<br />

through the presentation of collections, exhibitions, and programming; <strong>to</strong> <strong>for</strong>m mutually beneficial<br />

partnerships <strong>to</strong> enhance the role of the arts within our community; and <strong>to</strong> adhere <strong>to</strong> professional<br />

museum standards in all operations.<br />

Lunch and Learn Series: An American Art Sampler - Wednesday, August 1<br />

Explore a slice of American art his<strong>to</strong>ry in this four part series taught by the Museum Educa<strong>to</strong>r<br />

from 12:10-12:50 p.m. Approachable and in<strong>for</strong>mative, the sessions will examine facets of American<br />

art including the early days of empire and exploration, representations of the untamed and<br />

urban landscape, genre works of Americans at work and play, and a look at rebels, ex-patriots<br />

and prophets. Relax, bring <strong>your</strong> lunch and learn about American his<strong>to</strong>ry through its art. Free <strong>for</strong><br />

members and $5.00 per session <strong>for</strong> non-members.<br />

Current Exhibits – Ongoing<br />

The <strong>Dubuque</strong> Museum of Art has a number of summer exhibits that are concluding this month,<br />

including: Landscapes by Edward S. Curtis from The North American Indian Collection (closing<br />

August 5); Life on the River, watercolors of <strong>Dubuque</strong> and the Mississippi by Alda Kaufman<br />

(closing August 5); Grand Canyon and Venice, two landscapes by Thomas Moran from<br />

a private collection (closing August 26); and selections from Arthur Geisert’s Country<br />

Road ABC: An Illustrated Journey Through America’s Farmland (closing August 29).<br />
