BASKETBALL NEW ZEALANDDrug Free Sport New Zealand Outreach <strong>Programme</strong>DFSNZ Outreach <strong>Programme</strong>BBNZ is committed to educating its athletes and support staff and officialsabout the positive effects of being drug-free in sport and in life. Drug FreeSport NZ (DFSNZ) has developed a programme based on WADA's AthleteOutreach Model. The programme provides access to information and staffin the midst of sporting events. Athletes, support staff and others canparticipate in activities that have been designed to engage and inform aboutthe key aspects of anti-doping. Athletes can do the WADA AthleteQuiz and sign the DFSNZ AthletePledge at these events.DFSNZ attended two days of the<strong>2013</strong> U17 <strong>National</strong> <strong>Championship</strong>srunning the WADA anti-doping quiz.The quiz involves aset of 10 questionsrandomly selected by the computerwhich athletes thenanswer and win abranded product. This will give DFSNZa chance to introduce those athletes tothe concept of anti- doping educationand discuss their answers andpossible answers around suchtopics as steroids, anti-dopingrules and their athlete’s rights and responsibilities.The Outreach programme is about preventing doping through effectivevalues-based education programmes that can foster anti-doping behavioursand create a strong anti-doping culture. Participants are also given theopportunity to become a pledged athlete and join the Pure Playing FieldNation Community committing to competing clean. They are then able towear the green DFSNZ armband. Live feed updates will run via twitter onthe games and the tournament, with comments, interviews and photosthrough the United by the Pledge website www.unitedbythepledge.co.nz.
