GENERAL MANAGERSTARPAK MANAGEMENT LTDJOB DESCRIPTION & APPLICATION PROCESSOverviewStarpak Management Ltd (Starpak) is a Sports, Event and Entertainment <strong>management</strong>company that hold the following sport <strong>management</strong> and administration contracts. Century City Saints (Wellington’s National <strong>Basketball</strong> League Franchise). Starpakcurrently holds the <strong>management</strong> contract to deliver the Century City Saints NBLprogramme. National <strong>Basketball</strong> League (NBL Ltd). Starpak has in place a three year (2010-2012)agreement to manage the administration of the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> national <strong>Basketball</strong>League.Starpak is now looking to appoint an appropriately qualified person to lead, organise, manageand deliver Starpak’s portfolio of sport <strong>management</strong> and administration contracts.Enclosed in this pack is an overview of the position and the desired attributes to be successfulin this unique yet very challenging role.ORGANISATIONAL OVERVIEWThe Role of the General ManagerThe General Manager is a full-time position and is responsible for the organisation and deliveryof Starpak’s contract agreements with the Century City Saints and NBL Ltd . He/she will alsohave a significant input into the strategic development of Starpak’s future direction and theresultant sport, event and entertainment <strong>management</strong> and administration portfolio.The General Manager needs to be a clear thinker who can demonstrate the ability to work undersignificant workload pressures at certain times of the year. High quality time <strong>management</strong> willbe a key skill of the successful candidate.The co-ordination of all the different aspects of the delivery of the Century City Saints and NBLis likely to be the most challenging aspect of the role.This role is complex, challenging and very exciting – being the opportunity to work with adiversity of basketball people at the forefront of the game in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>.The General Manager will report to the Director of Starpak and will work closely with the NBLLtd Board.The following job description gives a more precise insight into the key areas of responsibility aswell as the relationship with the major basketball stakeholders.THE ROLE OF THE NATIONAL EVENTS MANAGER


POSITION PURPOSEAs General Manager your responsibilities are three fold.1. You will work with the Director of Starpak and Head Coach of the Century City Saints(Saints) to deliver a successful National <strong>Basketball</strong> League campaign .2. You will forge strong working relationships with NBL Ltd to administer all aspects ofdelivering the National <strong>Basketball</strong> League.3. As General Manager you will be charged with identifying and successfully bidding onfuture Sport, Event and Entertainment <strong>management</strong> and administration contracts to growStarpak’s portfolio of clients. This will be achieved through the implementation of highquality <strong>management</strong> system and protocols, delivering a comprehensive and accessibleSaints program and NBL competition and developing initiatives for Starpak’s futuregrowth.KEY RELATIONSHIPSAs General Manager you will be required to work with a diverse range of people andorganisations, including but not limited to;Century City Saints players and <strong>management</strong>Century City Saints volunteersCentury City Saints members and stakeholdersNBL Ltd Board<strong>Basketball</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>NBL FranchisesNBL RefereesThe position of General Manager is complex, challenging and extremely exciting.It provides a rare opportunity for the right candidate to work within a National sporting franchiseand a National League.JOB DESCRIPTION - NATIONAL EVENTS MANAGERRESPONSIBILITIES:Funding and SponsorshipResponsible for attracting new sponsorships to both the Century City Saints and NBLLtd.Responsible for managing existing sponsorship relationships with both the Century CitySaints and NBL Ltd to ensure retention of these invaluable resources.Responsible for all aspects of completing successful gaming machine fundingapplications.Assisting the Director in managing relationships with gaming machine fundingorganisations.Responsible for researching and developing alternative revenue streams to ensureviability of both the Century City Saints and NBL Ltd.


Sales & MarketingResponsible for managing the Season Membership database and sale of seasonmemberships for the Century City SaintsResponsible for managing the ticketing of all Century City Saints home gamesResponsible for attracting new corporate hospitality sales for Century City Saints homegames.Responsible for managing existing corporate hospitality partnerships to ensure retentionof active clientsResponsible for all aspects of marketing the Century City Saints and the National<strong>Basketball</strong> League including developing and maintaining excellent working relationshipswith media outlets in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>. This includes such tasks as overseeing theproduction of the season membership brochure and tickets, game day programme andNBL handbook.Media, PR & CommunicationsResponsible for managing the delivery of press releases to the media database for boththe Century City Saints and the NBL.Manage the administration and content of both the Century City Saints and NBLwebsites which includes posting of all game data in a timely fashion.Responsible for delivering game results and brief reports on all games played in the NBLto media outlets in a timely manner directly after each game this ensuring the NBLfeatures prominently across a wide range of national media news sources.Manage in collaboration with the NBL Ltd Board all communications between the NBLand the NBL franchises to ensure administration and PR tasks are completed and of ahigh standard.Manage all communications from the Century City Saints to its members andstakeholders including delivery of regular email communications during the season.Manage relationships with the Century City Saints media partners to ensure the Saintsreceive high levels of publicity and promotion during the NBL season.Manage all communication to the NBL refereesAssist the ROA with producing the weekly NBL media guide.AdministrationAssist the Research and Office Administrator (ROA) with managing the collection ofrelevant game data after each NBL game to ensure stats for all teams and players in theNBL are maintained and updated. This collection of information also serves to identifycrowd attendance figures and other important information to monitor the success of theleague.Assist the ROA with organising the travel and accommodation requirements for theCentury City Saints away game, which also serves as the basis for funding applicationsfor this fundable expense.Assist the ROA with organising travel and accommodation arrangements for referees inthe NBLManage the ROA to ensure all day to day administration duties involved with managingthe Century City Saints and the Administration of the NBL are done to a high standardand in a timely manner.


Event ManagementManage all aspects of the delivery of Century City Saints home games.
