Case study:The <strong>Alimak</strong> rack & pinion lift provides convenient vertical access inside the wind turbine at awind power plant in Kaiser Wilhelms Koog, Germany.An <strong>Alimak</strong> rack & pinion lift has been installed inside awind turbine at a wind power plant in Kaiser WilhelmsKoog near Husum, Germany. The <strong>Alimak</strong> lift features alifting height of 60 meters and uses <strong>Alimak</strong> <strong>Hek</strong>’s provenrack & pinion drive system. <strong>Alimak</strong> <strong>Hek</strong> has considerableexperience with installations within the power industry.The lifts can be found on silos, chimneys, boilers, scrubbers,absorbers, precipitators, and so on, worldwide.Lift design<strong>Alimak</strong> lifts are designed to operate in demanding industrialenvironments, outdoors and indoors. The <strong>Alimak</strong> rack andpinion drive system offers advantages over wire rope andhydraulic lifts. Because an <strong>Alimak</strong> rack and pinion liftcarries its own machinery, it does not require an expensivemachine room or load-bearing lift shaft.The rack and pinion lift also has safety advantages overtraction lifts. In a power outage, the car slides back to thenearest landing by gravity at controlled speed using thecentrifugal brake. If the rated speed is exceeded, the car isstopped automatically by a safety device.The range of <strong>Alimak</strong> industrial lifts includes lifts withcapacities of between 300 kg – 2,400 kg and features 30different standard car sizes, up to a maximum 1.56 m x 3 m.Travelling speeds are up to 1.0 m/sec and lifting heightscan be up to 250 m with standard accessories.
