Mr M aimed for hisservice to be free of chargefor the first year and he thenwishes to introduce amembership fee.As yet very few smallbusinesses have beenindentified who wish to usethe service.4. Oldham CraftMichael has a mild learning disability and delivers football training sessions once a week foran hour for other people with disabilities. Michael and his friend (who does not have alearning disability) work together to run the enterprise. Michael delivers the service whilehis friend deals with the background running of the enterprise. The service operates from amulticultural centre which has a sports focus and Michael receives some informal supportfrom a staff member at the centre. This is a voluntary service but the players pay a nominalfee to cover the cost of the hired pitch and insurance.Interventions Outcomes ChallengesMichael has been advisedand supported by the ProjectCo-ordinator on a number ofissues including where togain funding support.Oldham Craft now haspolicies and proceduresWorkers have applied for aCRB check18Oldham Craft wish to expandthe enterprise and for it togenerate income but this hasnot been possible due to thelimitations of the welfare

Bob and Karen were members of the group before taking on the managementrole. Saturday Night Social operates at weekends and in the evening at a local resource andinclusion centre for people with enduring mental health issues. Bob and Karen realised thatthere were a number of services and groups available on week days, but there was nothingavailable at other times. Saturday Night Social offers people the opportunity to socialise,feel included, and have a low cost home cooked meal. The group is highly valued by thepeople who use it.Interventions Outcomes ChallengesSaturday Night Social havehad support and advice fromthe Project Co-ordinator onpotential sources of fundingand ways to develop andsustain the serviceThere is a possibility that theservice may end.The long term sustainabilityof the service is in questionbecause the volunteers whorun it find it personallychallenging due to their ownfluctuating health conditions.Gaining funding or income torun Saturday Night Social isalso difficult.6. CLEO (Community Lived Experience Organisation) - formerly Oldham Open User ForumThis user led group is designed and delivered by people experiencing emotional and socialtrauma and offers peer support, mental health training and advocacy for people with livedexperience of mental distress. The voluntary group has been operating for 10 years.
