He was aware tha<strong>to</strong>thers suffer from this disorder and current provision does not meet their <strong>needs</strong>. Mr Maimed <strong>to</strong> fill that gap by establishing a <strong>s<strong>up</strong>port</strong> gro<strong>up</strong> and service for <strong>people</strong> <strong>with</strong> PostTraumatic Stress Disorder.Interventions Outcomes ChallengesThe Project Co-ordina<strong>to</strong>r wasable <strong>to</strong> signpost Mr M <strong>to</strong>organisations able <strong>to</strong> advisehim on formally <strong>set</strong>ting <strong>up</strong> avoluntary organisation, <strong>to</strong>enable him <strong>to</strong> accessfunding, advice on CRBchecks and appropriateinsurance.Mr M’s research indicatedthat the gro<strong>up</strong> is the first ofits kind in the country, andwill hopefully be constitutedas a voluntary organisationdelivered from the Centrefor Independent Living inOldham.Mr M found it a challenge <strong>to</strong>manage his own healthcondition, establish the newservice and find a venue forthe gro<strong>up</strong> <strong>to</strong> meet in.8. Cooking and teachingMr S has enduring mental health issues and found that cooking made life more bearable andprovided him <strong>with</strong> some inner peace. He acquired training from the council which equippedhim <strong>to</strong> teach others; he aimed <strong>to</strong> deliver a <strong>social</strong> enterprise focussing on teaching <strong>people</strong><strong>with</strong> a learning disability how <strong>to</strong> cook.Interventions Outcomes ChallengesMr S needed <strong>s<strong>up</strong>port</strong> <strong>to</strong>access start-<strong>up</strong> funding, gainadvice from business <strong>s<strong>up</strong>port</strong>agencies and <strong>to</strong> assess thepotential impact on hiswelfare benefits if he was <strong>to</strong>earn money. Mr S needed<strong>s<strong>up</strong>port</strong> from the Project Co-Mr S was <strong>s<strong>up</strong>port</strong>edintensively by the Project Coordina<strong>to</strong>rfor over twelvemonths and has gained agreat deal of confidence andknowledge over that time.He has learned that hisMr S found it personallydifficult <strong>to</strong> engage <strong>with</strong> theworld in addition <strong>to</strong> coping<strong>with</strong> his own health issuesand continuing his role as aninformal <strong>care</strong>r for his Mother20
