After graduating from the University of Westminster with a LLB. degree, sheundertook a Masters degree in Law (LL.M) at the London School of Economics andPolitical Science in years 2005/06, with a focus on international and human rightslaw. Her interest in the death penalty was demonstrated with a 15,000 worddissertation on capital punishment litigation in the Commonwealth Caribbean.Lina has been involved with the Centre’s activities intermittently for some time,starting with work as volunteer researcher in 2003. She undertook a CCPS internshipin 2004 at the Independent Jamaica Council for Human Rights in Kingston, Jamaica.The work included assisting prisoners on death row with their appeals to the PrivyCouncil, dealing with general human rights issues and enquiries as well as research.3
Subsequently, she worked at the Centre as a part-time administrator and alsovolunteered for the children's charity Everychild.Lina has been working full time at the CCPS since August 2006. Her main areas ofwork at the Centre are as project officer for the CCPS project in Morocco andmanaging the daily activities of the Centre. She is also currently managing the CCPSInternship Programme. In her research role Lina looks at the raft of issues bearing onthe administration of the death penalty in international and constitutional law,penology, and criminology. She is responsible for researching and maintaininginformation relating to a number of issues surrounding the death penalty, particularlylooking at public opinion issues and victims of homicide and the death penalty, aswell as alternative punishments and what factors were considered when abolishingthe death penalty in different countries. In addition, she is responsible for theHumane Advocacy Programme, the Centre’s Occasional Papers Series andmonitoring and research on the death penalty in the former British CommonwealthCaribbean, Africa and Asia.Select publications and conferencesP.
