Better CNC Tapping Guaranteed With Or Without Machine Reversals Rigid Tapping is the most popular way to tap with machine reversals. Two reversals are required for each tapped hole. Full size machining or turning centers protect themselves against reversal related wear and tear by limiting their tapping speeds. Small “high speed” drilling and tapping centers can be programmed for speeds up to 8000 RPM, but because of reversals their average tapping speeds are substantially lower. See test comparison on page 4. Tapmatic SynchroFlex ® Tap Drivers increase Tap Life By 100% Or More On Rigid Tapping Applications and can operate at whatever tapping speeds your machine can reach. Their unique patented technology incorporates a precision machined flexure between the shank and the tap chuck that eliminates the minute discrepancies between the machine feed and traverse and the exact thread pitch and hole location. Any discrepancy causes extra wear on taps. For exact speed for a specific tap in a specific material, please follow rules. and charts on pages 4, 5, and 6. Constant Speed Tapping relies on a compact tapping head to provide tap reversal. The machine spindle runs in one direction at the exact programmed speed and reversal occurs within the tapping head instantaneously upon machine retraction. The holes per minute (HPM) rate promised by the programmed RPM will be achieved. By avoiding the RPM fluctuations,common to machine reversal tapping, tap life will also be increased. Tapping speed rules and charts on pages 4, 5 and 6 were compiled by leading tap manufacturers, and surface feet have been converted to RPM. Each box shows recommended speeds for specific uncoated and coated taps and the best head to use for the application. Please note a range of speeds is always shown. For the exact speed, you must follow the rules on page 4.
