themselves to work with and have a greater impact on all members<strong>of</strong> the education community – fellow educators, students,parents, community leaders, and policy makers.The USI Department <strong>of</strong> Teacher Education worked with areaschool administrators to design a top-quality educational programthat incorporates the <strong>Indiana</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional StandardsBoard standards for building administrators. The curriculumcombines classroom learning with field experiences to give prospectivebuilding administrators an understanding <strong>of</strong> theoryand application in the school setting.the breadth <strong>of</strong> an individual’s education in various technicalfields related to industrial management; or increasing the depth<strong>of</strong> education in a single technical specialty related to industrialmanagement. The program should meet the needs <strong>of</strong> theemployed individual who either seeks additional knowledge insubject areas that were not covered in his or her undergraduatedegree program or desires to extend the knowledge acquired asan undergraduate or through employment experience. The primarypurpose <strong>of</strong> the program is to provide knowledge <strong>of</strong> managementconcepts and modern technical innovations as appliedto technically based enterprises.Admission RequirementsAdmission is a two-step process. Students must be admitted toUSI Graduate Studies and then be accepted into the buildingleveladministrator’s program. Cohort groups <strong>of</strong> candidatesbegin the program in the fall. The program can be completedin 15 months with candidates taking two courses in the fallsemester, two in the spring semester, three during the summersession, and the culminating internship in the final fall semester.Admission requirements for those who have an earned master’sdegree:• Must have a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.2 on graduate course work,two years <strong>of</strong> teaching experience, and a valid teachinglicense; and• obtain admission to graduate school through the USI Office<strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies.Admission requirements for those who do not have a master’sdegree:• Must have a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 on undergraduate coursework;• show evidence <strong>of</strong> two years <strong>of</strong> teaching experience;• obtain admission to graduate school through the USI Office<strong>of</strong> Graduate Studies; and• sign an agreement <strong>of</strong> understanding regarding the requirementsfor administrative licensure.CurriculumThe program includes the following eight courses for a total <strong>of</strong>24 credit hours.681 Foundations <strong>of</strong> Principalship 3682 Issues in Educational Leadership 3683 Leadership in the Principalship 3684 Legal Aspects <strong>of</strong> School Administration 3685 Curriculum and Learning for Educational Leaders 3686 Management in the Principalship 3688 Internship for School Leaders 3689 Special Topics in Education Leadership 3Admission RequirementsThis master’s degree program is intended for engineers, technologists,and scientists who are currently employed and whoexpect to be working in managerial positions which involveresponsibility for manufacturing, design, production, and material-handlingfunctions in a variety <strong>of</strong> technical and industrialenterprises. Applicants who have completed an undergraduatedegree program in engineering or engineering technology witha GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale) will be admitted unconditionally.Applicants who have completed undergraduatedegree programs in other areas will be considered for admission,but a preparatory phase <strong>of</strong> up to 18 credit hours may berequired in order to prepare properly for the graduate programcourse work. Courses required in the preparatory program canbe tailored to meet the needs and objectives <strong>of</strong> individual students.Because this degree program is intended primarily for employedindividuals, all course <strong>of</strong>ferings are made available in the evenings.Students can expect to enroll in a maximum <strong>of</strong> twocourses per semester for the fall and spring semesters and onecourse during the summer. Thus, it is possible to complete theprogram in two calendar years assuming continuous enrollmentat the maximum level. However, it is more realistic to expectthat three calendar years will be required to complete thedegree requirements.CurriculumThe degree requirements include 33 credit hours <strong>of</strong> coursework. A core <strong>of</strong> 15 credit hours comprising courses in industrialmanagement, project management, operations systems analysisand modeling, analytical techniques for economic evaluation,and capstone graduate project are required <strong>of</strong> all students. Anadditional 18 credit hours <strong>of</strong> approved supporting or electivecourses complete the course requirements. Elective coursesallow specialization in areas such as industrial safety, ergonomics,manufacturing systems analysis, decision sciences, marketing,and finance.GRADUATE EDUCATIONMASTER OF SCIENCE IN INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT812/464-1877Program ObjectivesThe graduate degree program in industrial management isdesigned to accommodate either <strong>of</strong> two objectives: increasingThe elective course <strong>of</strong>ferings and potential areas <strong>of</strong> specializationwill permit students to tailor the program to meet specificpr<strong>of</strong>essional development objectives without compromising relevanceto current and prospective occupational responsibilities.All core courses and required preparatory courses must be completedat the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>Indiana</strong> unless a waiver isgranted upon admission to the program.
