Prereq:Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the followingorder: 100 yards <strong>of</strong> front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing,propellant kick; rhythmic breathing can be performed either bybreathing to the side or to the front; 100 yards <strong>of</strong> breaststroke; 100yards <strong>of</strong> either front crawl using rhythmic breathing or breaststroke ora mixture <strong>of</strong> front crawl and breaststroke. Swim 20 yards using frontcrawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth <strong>of</strong> seven-10 feet, retrieve a10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to thestarting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladderor steps, within one minute, 40 seconds. When returning to thestarting point, the participant’s face must remain above the water andthe participant must hold the 10-pound object with both hands. Sp281 Personal Health Science (3) Examination <strong>of</strong> attitudes, researchfacts, and misconceptions pertaining to personal health needs andpractices. Topics include but are not limited to nutrition, family living,sexuality, drug use and abuse, disease prevention, safety, first aid, andpublic health resources. NC1 Sp, Su, F282 First Aid (2) Course includes first aid measures recommended bythe American Red Cross. Skill training provided for certification inCommunity First Aid and Safety, Adult, Infant and Child CPR. NC1Sp, Su, F283 Field Experience in Sport and Exercise (1) Provides studentswith practical experience in sport and exercise related fields. Studentshave the opportunity to observe pr<strong>of</strong>essionals at work and learn aboutthe basic operations <strong>of</strong> a facility and about programs and services<strong>of</strong>fered. Prereq: Must have completed 32 or more credit hours and be adeclared exercise science, kinesiology, sport management, or healthpr<strong>of</strong>essions major. Sp, F284 Stress Management (2) A study <strong>of</strong> the elements which manifeststress, its impact, and strategies to minimize its effect on daily life.285 Officiating <strong>of</strong> Track and Field (1)286 Safety Education (2) This course is designed to examine the hazardspresent in all aspects <strong>of</strong> modern life that may produce propertydamage, injury, and/or illness. The activities <strong>of</strong> transportation, recreation,education, and home living are assessed for safety. Interventionstrategies are presented. NO1 Su287 Physical Education and the Elementary School ClassroomTeacher (2) Provides students with the basic information about teachingphysical education to children in elementary school. Develop, participatein, and teach developmentally appropriate physical activitiesfor children in grades 1-6 including classroom, recess/playground, wellness,fitness, and integrated activities. Sp, Su, F291 Motor Behavior (2) A study <strong>of</strong> the motor development <strong>of</strong> childrenthrough adolescence, their motor learning capabilities, and thefactors which influence skill acquisition, retention, and transfer. Sp, Su292 Rhythms (2) Exposure to movement set to music or some structuredsounds. Emphasis placed on the use <strong>of</strong> movement, small equipment,and music. Materials are developed for teacher use in elementaryschool grades 1-6. F293 Teaching Developmental Activities (4) Course provides studentswith the basic information related to teaching elementary school physicaleducation. Students will participate in eight weeks <strong>of</strong> field experiencein an elementary physical education setting. Students will developlessons that are safe and developmentally appropriate while ensuringmaximum participation by all students with and without disabilitiesand using resources effectively. Prereq: Sophomore level and physicaleducation teaching major. F294 Teaching Team Sports (2) Students will learn how to teach teamsports. Students will learn proper skill progressions and transitiontechniques that are used to link fundamental movement with sportskills, and how to evolve simple strategies into more complex <strong>of</strong>fensesand defenses. Students must pass pr<strong>of</strong>iciency exam at 80 percent. Sp296 Self-Testing and Movement Fundamentals (1) Skill acquisitionand the study <strong>of</strong> the mechanics <strong>of</strong> locomotor, non-locomotor, andmanipulative skills. F297 Teaching Individual Dual Sports (2) Students will learn how toteach individual and dual sports. Students will learn proper skill progressions,transition techniques that are used to link fundamentalmovement with sports skills, and how to evolve simple strategies intomore complex <strong>of</strong>fenses and defenses. Students must pass pr<strong>of</strong>iciencyexam at 80 percent.
