SPECIFICATIONSSP 12MThe low frequencies are provided bythe 12" Black Widow BWX SF wooferwith a Kevlar impregnated cone anddust cap. Capable of over 500 wattsof continuous power handling (AESStd 2-1984), the woofer can handlea lot of power, which also resultsin very low power compression. The high frequencies are handledby a 2" Rx 22 titanium diaphragmcompression driver utilizing ferrofluidcooling. This superb driver is coupledto a constant directivity horn withsmooth, even response and goodhigh frequency dispersion. TheRx 22 driver features the RadialinearPlanar Phase Correction System (U.S.Patent 6,064,745), which providessmoother and extended highfrequency response.Input connection to the system ismade via two 1/4" phone jacksand a four-pin twist lock connectorin parallel. The internal passivecrossover features the Sound Guard III tweeter protection circuit and anadvanced topology crossover withhigh performance components toprovide high power handling andreliability. Sound Guard , Peavey’sproprietary high-frequency driverprotection circuitry, provides longandmedium-term driver overloadprotection without impairing musicaltransients or dynamics. The crossoverprovides driver roll off and protectionas well as driver EQ for the wooferand horn for clean, clear, smoothresponse. High quality, reliablecrossover components includepolypropylene capacitors and highcurrent inductors. The optimalintegration of the crossover with theselected drivers results in a smoothfrequency response from 108 Hz to 14kHz, making it highly appropriate formonitor applications.Despite its compact dimensionsfor a 12" floor monitor enclosure, this system can put out some veryhigh sound levels and handle 1000watts of undistorted amplifierpower program, resulting in cleanmonitoring with high articulation andreliability.Frequency ResponseThis measurement is useful indetermining how accurately a givenunit reproduces an input signal. Thefrequency response of the SP 12Mis measured at a distance of 1 meterusing a 1 watt (into the nominalimpedance) swept-sine input signal. As shown in figure 1, the selecteddrivers in the SP 12M combine to givea smooth frequency response from108 Hz to 14 kHz.Power HandlingThere are many different approachesto power handling ratings. Peaveyrates this loudspeaker system'spower handling using a full-rangeform of the AES Standard 2-1984.Using audio band 20 Hz to 20 kHzpink noise with peaks of four timesthe RMS level, this strenuous testsignal assures the user that everyportion of this system can withstandtoday's high technology music. Thisrating is contingent upon having aminimum of 3 dB available amplifierheadroom.Harmonic DistortionSecond and third harmonicdistortions vs. frequency are plottedin figures 3 & 4 for two powerlevels. Ten percent (10%) of ratedinput power and either one percent(1%) of rated input power or 1 watt, whichever is greater. Distortion isread from the graph as the differencebetween the fundamental signal(frequency response) and thedesired harmonic. As an example, adistortion curve that is down 40 dBfrom the fundamental is equivalent to1% distortion.MountingThis unit is not designed for overhead suspension. Includes built-inmetal stand mount adapter. Eightrubber feet on two sides enabledual-angle use.Architectural & EngineeringSpecificationsThe loudspeaker system shall havean operating bandwidth of 108 Hzto 14 kHz.
