It is envisaged <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd & the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> will work in collaboration to resolvethe issues. KC to speak to Peter Caldow.2. Opening RemarksKC apologized for the cancellation of the last Focus Group meeting due to the unavailability of leadrepresentatives. KC stated this meeting is of great importance as it highlights the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong>’skey challenges and issues. KC attended the last NAECI meeting where he was impressed by thesafety focus and the excellent safety performance.3. Safety ShareBC shared the learning of an incident that occurred on a road scheme system. An operative steppedoutside of a designated pedestrian zone whilst on a road and as a result collided with a push bike.The accident ended in a fatality for the pedestrian. As the use of electric cars and push bikesincreases, especially around the <strong>Sellafield</strong> site, we should all be more cautious of the changinghazards facing road users today.Action 6/2Secretary to distribute details of the safety share with all Focus Group attendees.4. Review of minutes/actions from meeting 5KC reviewed the actions from meeting 5 held on Thursday 24 th May 2012. All outstanding actionshave been addressed.5. The <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> & the skills gapBC represented Britain’s Energy Coast, Construction Manufacturing & Nuclear New Build(CM&NNB) sector on the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> and the skills gap. The presentation is available to view onthe <strong>Sellafield</strong> website.• Workshop on skills for the nuclear industry: “Defining the Nuclear Energy Skills Alliance(NESA) Workplan” was held on 19 th September 2012.SSCFG Meeting 6 27 th September 2012

For more details contact ally.irvine@young-enterprise.org.uk.Action 6/3David McNerney to brief the SSCFG on the Skills Working Group meeting held in July 2012,so that the Focus Group can provide the required support.6 <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> Coalition FeedbackAT provided an update on the issues the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> face at <strong>Sellafield</strong> when delivering a project.There were four key areas identified that had the potential to make the working between <strong>Sellafield</strong>Ltd and the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> more efficient:• Improved communication between <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd and the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> at the work face.• Work scheduling & planning improvements.• Increased resource availability.• Increased equipment availability.AST has provided feedback to the area reviewed and an improvement plan is currently beingdeployed.Action 6/4AT to feed the review findings to the Head of EHS& Q for Decommissioning to ensure thelessons learnt can be shared across the <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd Heads of EHS&Q.7 <strong>Sellafield</strong> Engineering Challenges – key supply chain messagesPA identified the key challenges to the Engineering Directorate. The presentation is available toview on the <strong>Sellafield</strong> website. A discussion was held between the Focus Group members and PAhighlighting several engineering issues. There were several observations made:• Developing a more collaborative approach at the conceptual design phase between thecustomer & the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> needs to be encouraged.• There is a need for innovation and transferring of technologies between industries.• Quality control is paramount given globalization of <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong>.• There is a need to share learning between projects.The Focus Group thanked PA for the brief on <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd Engineering Challenges..8 <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> Coalition SchedulePU summarized the activities of the SCC for the 2012/2013 schedule.• Phase 2 validation work continues• Phase 1 workshops are continuing• Continuing engagement with SL Commercial and Quality9. <strong>Sellafield</strong> Contractors GroupJH explained there was no contractors group held due to the summer holiday period.• The group has been working closely with <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd to provide solutions in relation tothe security enhancement project.• JH highlighted that attendance at the Contractors Group had not been a regular occurrenceover recent months by representatives. JH has challenged representatives to activelysupport the Contractors Group going forward.10. <strong>Sellafield</strong> Contractors Group, CivilsBW reiterated the need for forward planning and increased visibility of projects to secure the skillsbase. BW brought to KC attention the frustration being caused to the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> over the time ittakes to grant personnel access to <strong>Sellafield</strong>.11. <strong>Sellafield</strong> Contractors Group – NAECIKC was present at the NAECI meeting and in AD absence reported on the safety statistics of thecontractors group.• 15 months without a RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous OccurrencesSSCFG Meeting 6 27 th September 2012

Britain’s Energy Coast Business ClusterBC provided an update in PJ absence. The next cluster meeting will be held on Wednesday 5 thOctober 2012 at Energus. <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd were due to provide an update on Major Projectperformance but had to cancel. SA agreed to provide an alternative presentation on “<strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong>Oversight Improvements” as a substitute for the planned session.14. Industrial RelationsWR provided an update:• NAECI pay talks will continue on October 1 st 2012• Public Service national industrial action penciled in for November 2012• Cumbria Waste is considering industrial action on 5 th October 2012 at <strong>Sellafield</strong>.15 <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd UpdateSA provided a <strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd update.• 3500 <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> staff has been engaged on the <strong>Sellafield</strong> Journey to Excellence.<strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd leaders have been encouraged to integrate the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> into the follow on“Connection Conversations”.• SA commended the NAECI contractors on their outstanding safety statistics. Ged Toman,<strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd will be issuing a safety awareness article highlighting the good performance atthe <strong>Sellafield</strong> site.• Voice of the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> survey received over 170 responses. SA thanked the <strong>Supply</strong><strong>Chain</strong> for their support and indentified that a detailed plan to address the improvements isavailable to view on the <strong>Sellafield</strong> website.• SA expressed his thanks to the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> for their continued support and attendance atthe Focus Group.Action 6/5SA to confirm dates of the Movesmart introduction to the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong>.16 AOBActions6/1 Peter Caldow (<strong>Sellafield</strong> Ltd) is to liaise with representatives from the Focus Group meeting todiscuss the challenges to the <strong>Supply</strong> <strong>Chain</strong> as a result of the infrastructure enhancementproject.
