Course: Seismic Data Processing With GLOBE Claritas
Overview
The course is designed to give attendees practical experience of processing 2D land or
marine data with GLOBE Claritas, from field data to final migration. The course is three days
in duration, and allows users access to GNS Science expertise in tackling a variety of
common problems.
Course Objectives
The course is designed to cater to a wide variety of theoretical and practical experience. The
main objectives are that each attendee should gain:
o understanding of the objectives of seismic data processing;
o understanding of typical land or marine seismic processing flows;
o experience in parameter testing for seismic data processing;
o experience in troubleshooting seismic data processing flows;
o experience in applying 2D land or marine processing flows.
Course Content
Two data sets are provided as part of the course, one land and one marine. Attendees work
on either dataset at their own pace, either alone or in pairs.
All of the workflows, parameters and support data are provided, along with detailed notes
outlining the steps to be followed.
Short background lectures on a key topics will also be given throughout the course; these are
not in-depth mathematical treatments, and are designed to conceptually explain key
processing techniques.
Lecture notes and course workbooks are provided, and the course data sets are available on
request on DVD.
Key topics are:
Land processing Marine processing
Land geometry: configuration Simple marine geometry
Using a floating elevation datum Signal processing
Efficient First break picking Coherency processing
Refraction Statics Velocity Analysis
Signal processing Multiple removal
Course Delivery
Experienced processors will be able to complete either the land or marine data sets, and
should have opportunity to test and develop alternative processing approaches and
outcomes.
Results from each group will be compared at appropriate points, so that the advantages and
disadvantages of particular parameters choices can be compared as part of a general
discussion
Attendees are encouraged to bring appropriate media so they can upload their final results.
Course Tutor
Guy Maslen leads the GLOBE Claritas team at GNS Science, and has been with the
company since 2000. Prior to joining GNS Science Guy worked for two of the larger seismic
contractors (CGG and Veritas, now merged) in a variety of locations and roles, including
onboard processing and depth imaging. Guy gained an MSc in Applied Geophysics from the
University of Birmingham (UK) in 1992, and has been a seismic data processing geophysicist
for the last 16 years.
Registration
The course will run between 28 th and 30 th April, 2008, and will be held at Geo-Form’s training
facility in Paris, France.
The cost of the course is US$1750 per person; this cost excludes travel and accommodation.
Refreshments and training materials will be provided.
