CEO’s FocusWOW--Good News Castle Rock isreally growing up. Jim Riley fromCastle Rock Development Companyannounced at the Chamber’s“Voting Means Business” IssuesForum that Centura Health is slatedto build a new medical center toinclude a full service hospital atThe Meadows in Castle Rock. Thefacility will be located on 50 acresadjacent to Meadows Boulevardand Meadows Parkway.Centura Health, a faith-based,nonprofit healthcare system, will offer emergency room services, imaging and laboratory services and a medical office buildingduring the first phase, which is expected to be completed bythe end of 2009. Construction on a full service, state-of-the-arthospital will begin shortly after the first phase is completed. When the facility is completely built-out, the medical centeris expected to bring hundreds of jobs to Castle Rock. Thisventure is another big step towards Castle Rock becoming aself-sustaining community.Advocating Political ActionIn keeping with the Chamber’s overarching mission of businessleadership, dedication to quality of life and economic vitality, the Chamber’s Board of Directors’ objective is to evaluate, assess, educate and/or represent the business community in anyexisting or emerging issue, whether it is community- or policydriven.Recently, the Castle Rock Chamber Board of Directors took aposition to endorse the Douglas County Library’s 1.25 mil levy. The board believes the Library District has a proven track recordof fiscal responsibility and has been recognized as seventhbest library system in the nation by the Hennen’s AmericanPublic Library Ratings (HAPLR) in our population group. The purpose of this initiative is to raise the mil levy in orderto improve the accessibility of library services through thepurchase and expansion of books, library materials, internetand computer access and the construction and operationof library facilities in Douglas County. In addition, the Library has committed to be a full partnerwith the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, EconomicDevelopment Council and Douglas County in the Town’seconomic gardening initiative – assisting businesses withmarketing, finance and financial management information, and research.New Member ServicesSince I have been involved with the Castle Rock Chamber, Ihave seen many programs and best practices. I am comfortablepassing along “tips” that I believe will help those companiesrelated to our industry save money and offer a betterworking environment.Recently, our board of directors and I took the time to considerwhether or not we would recommend Pre-Paid LegalServices to all members of the Castle Rock Chamber. The reason the board endorsed this program is really twofold. One is to help protect the businesses of the Castle RockChamber from vulnerabilities, not only to federal fines createdby new federal laws but also from potential frivolouslawsuits. Two, we believe the advice given to businesses bythe Pre-Paid Legal presenters not only helps protect businessesand their employees, but it will also help employees doa better job of protecting the data of each business.Upon hearing about what Pre-Paid Legal Services does andconsidering the many benefits offered, it was easy for thedirectors to conclude that this program was one that containedsignificant value for our members. Please expect a call from Susan Trost, our representative forPre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. in the near future to tell youmore about how you and your staff can start receiving thebenefits of this program. The Chamber will also be hostinga business training focused on the federal compliance lawswhich all employers must follow.See page 10 for details and to register. The purpose of the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce is to:• Support and promote member businesses • Be a “voice” to government• Foster a livable community with positive growthYour Chamber is:• Creating a Strong Local Economy• Promoting the Community• Advocating Political Action• Creating Networking Opportunities• Representing Business to GovernmentCall Us: 303-688-4597 or visit our website: www.castlerock.orgThe official Castle Rock Chamber website offers relocation and school information, Business Directory with links, community events schedule, and much more.EXECUTIVE COMMITTEEChairman of the BoardSteve ThayerSport ClipsChair – ElectPam JenkinsCastle Rock BankTreasurerPaul Eakins, CPAEakins & Company, P.C.Treasurer – ElectLisa FrizellDouglas County GovernmentImmediate Past ChairmanChristine PlantBest Western Inn & Suites of Castle RockDIRECTORSAaron BarrickFolkestad, Fazekas, Barrick & Patoile, PCPaul DonahueEdwards Jones InvestmentsLisle GatesCastle View High SchoolBrock GoodwinMutual of OmahaMichael HouseSpectacle Entertainment Marketing, Inc.Jamie KimbroughRe/Max AllianceHeather MarksCreative Custom InteriorsDave MittanFirstBank of Douglas CountyLinda WatsonSky Ridge Medical CenterLori WeinsteinPremier Pilates and WellnessEx-OfficioPam Ridler, CCEPresident, Castle RockChamber of CommerceDavid MitchemPresident, Castle RockEconomic Development CouncilRandy ReedMayor Town of Castle RockSally MisareTown ClerkCHAMBER STAFFPresidentPam Ridlerpam@castlerock.orgDirector of MarketingDiane Leducdiane@castlerock.orgDirector of ProgramsMelissa Moronimelissa@castlerock.orgEvents ManagerTodd McPhersontodd@castlerock.orgOffice AdministratorTammy Crattytammy@castlerock.orgClient Resource AssociateLaura Moorelaura@castlerock.orgMembership Account ExecutiveMichael Housemhouse@castlerock.org303-688-4597Castle Rock Chamber Business Voice • www.castlerock.org • For Advertising Info Call 303-663-6525
