About the Tours<strong>The</strong> <strong>Spectacles</strong> Yargan Tours are a unique eco-culturaltourism venture located at the <strong>Spectacles</strong> Wetlandsarea in Kwinana, 40 kilometres south of Perth, 20kilometres south of Fremantle, Western Australia.<strong>The</strong> Tours are a collaboration between the Town ofKwinana, Medina Aboriginal Cultural Community,the Department of Environment and Conservationand the Alcoa Foundation.<strong>The</strong> Tours present an indigenous view of the landthat includes dance, guided walks, story, song andbush tucker.<strong>The</strong>y are a forum for Aboriginal people to sharetheir knowledge, language and history with you, topreserve the traditional vibrantindigenous culture.Our logo is Yargan,the Nyoongarword forTortoise andis one of theAboriginaltotems of the<strong>Spectacles</strong>Wetlandsarea.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Spectacles</strong> Wetlands<strong>The</strong> <strong>Spectacles</strong> Wetlands is 360 hectares of naturalbush and wetland and is the most southern of thechain of freshwater lakes on the Swan Coastal Plainknown as the Beeliar Regional Park.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Spectacles</strong> is so named because it comprisestwo wetlands joined by a waterway giving it theappearance of a pair of spectacles and is co-managedby the Department of Environment and Conservationand Alcoa of Australia.<strong>The</strong> area consists of two walking tracks, a 5 kilometrelake walk through Paper Bark, Flooded Gum, BrackenFern and T-Tree and a 3 kilometre walk in Banksia,Sheoak and Grass Tree.In September and October of each year the woodedareas abound with native wildflowers including;Kangaroo Paw, Donkey and Spider Orchids, nativeWisteria and the Kwinana emblem the Pixie Mop.About the Program<strong>The</strong> <strong>Spectacles</strong> Yargan Tours offer a seasonal programfrom October to April and caters for schools, groups,tourists and the general public.In Kambarang (Spring) and Djeran (Autumn) theTours operate on Sunday afternoons and in Bunuru(Summer) they operate on Saturday evenings takingin the sunset and the cooler part of the day.School Tours<strong>The</strong> School Tours offer students a range of activitiesto complement Science, Society and Environment,the Arts and Language Studies. Each School Touroperates for 2 hours and includes a guided walk tothe lake, dance or art / artefacts workshop, Yargan(Tortoise) hunt, story and bush tucker. <strong>The</strong>se Toursare extremely popular.
