Message from the new DirectorEducation and training.The history of the IC has been one of continual success, with many accoladesand an excellent reputation both within PolyU, Pearl River Delta and Internationalrecognition of its achievements. The IC can with valid justification point to itscontributions to the training of young engineers, and to its projects and researchcarried out for local Industries.So the only problem, it would seem, is to continue this excellent record and toseek improvement to our services.What obstacles stand in our way from maintaining this high standard? Ironicallya problem that has not been addressed fully, even though it seems to be a simpleone, is to get the message across to departments and senior management whatit is that the IC does for PolyU. The problem may be one of senior academic’sperception of education versus training.Morley Safer an American 60 minutes commentator once said “you don’t goto university to learn how to do something, you go there to get an education”.That sentence is at the heart of the past and future problems of establishmentsworldwide attempting to give high quality Industrial Training. You will find thesentiment echoed by some senior academics in the education system, in HongKong and abroad, but perhaps more so in the US.However I have to say that I know from factual experience that this sentimentis fundamentally misplaced, when applied to the engineering discipline. Astudent’s understanding of the engineering processes is directly linked to his/her exposure and practical experience of taking part in that process. This canbe best summed up by the simple statement “only by doing can someone reallyunderstand”. This does not mean that academic knowledge is not required,rather that there should be a balance between practical training and academicteaching.So one of our aims for the near future is to cooperate more with PolyU engineeringdepartments, and to get the message across to them as to how important andfundamental, technical training is to a young engineer’s development. ic hot newsÌÌFinal year students win Best Project AwardÌÌ 理 大 畢 業 生 獲 頒 職 安 健 研 究 項 目 獎The final year project undertakenby Mr Peter KONG Yuenming,a part-time student ofthe BSc (Hons) in Environmental andOccupational Science & Health (EOSH)and supervised by IC teaching staff wasrecently adjudicated by the OccupationalSafety & Health Council (OSHC) asone of the winners of Best ProjectMerit Award. The Prize PresentationCeremony was successfully held on27 January 2010 at the Hong KongConvention and Exhibition Centre.Mr Kong’s project is entitled “Mergingof the Legally Required 14 SafetyManagement Elements with the OHSAS18001 Requirements” and is supervisedby Mr Fenkins CHOW Lap-yan, Engineerof the Industrial Centre.The ‘Best Project Award’ introduced byOSHC is a mean to encourage moreuniversity and post-secondary studentsto study OSH-related issues. In 2008the OSHC further introduced the“OSH Student Research Scholarship”to encourage university and postsecondarystudents to pursue qualityapplied research related to OSH issuesin their studies. Mr LAU Wing-ho, a finalyear student of the BSc (Hons) in EOSHwas recently adjudicated as one of thesuccessful Scholarship holders. Hisproject entitled “Review on OccupationalSafety and Health Risks in EnforcingClinical Waste Control in MedicalPremises in Hong Kong” is supervisedby Ir Jonathan CHUNG For, Engineer ofthe Industrial Centre. PolyJbot Rehabilitation RoboticSystem (PolyJbot) is an interdepartmentaland cross-disciplinecollaboration. The project is led by DrRaymond TONG, Assistant Professor ofthe Department of Health Technology andInformatics (HTI) and Professor WallaceLEUNG, Director of Research Instituteof Innovative Products and Technologies(RIIPT), with engineers, therapistsand designers drawn upon from theSchool of Design (SD), Department ofElectrical Engineering (EE), Departmentof Computing (COMP), Departmentof Rehabilitation Sciences (RS), HTI,RIIPT and the Industrial Centre (IC).Currently, most therapeutic exercisesfor stroke patients and elderly peopleare done by physiotherapists on a oneto-onebasis. The quantity and qualityof therapy are easily affected by theavailability of therapist, proximity of thehospital or clinic, duration, frequency,etc. In view of that, the engineers,therapists and designers of PolyU spentic spotlighta year to design and manufacture thePolyJbot to improve the provision ofphysiotherapy service. The PolyJbotis equipped with different interactivetraining exercises. Therapists canselect the best training mode andsetting for their patents according totheir needs. While traditional trainingis passive in nature, the PolyJbot isdriven by human intention. By capturingthe user’s intention through monitoringmuscle activities as measured by EMGelectrode placed on the body surface,the robotic system can generate trainingregimes with different combinations ofassistive and resistive forces during theexercise.The involvement and work supportedby the IC include test rig design andprototyping, detail engineering design,manufacturing, fabrication, assemblyand final testing.Project Example: PolyJbot Rehabilitation Robotic System項 目 例 子 :「 理 大 關 師 傅 」 智 能 療 復 治 療 系 統「 理 大 關 師 傅 」 智 能 療 復 治 療 系 統是 一 個 跨 部 門 跨 學 科 的 研 究 成 果 。研 究 組 由 醫 療 科 技 及 資 訊 學 系 助理 教 授 湯 啟 宇 博 士 及 創 新 產 品 與 科技 研 究 所 所 長 梁 煥 方 教 授 率 領 , 專家 隊 伍 來 自 設 計 學 院 、 電 機 工 程 學系 、 電 子 計 算 學 系 、 康 復 治 療 科 學系 、 醫 療 科 技 及 資 訊 學 系 、 創 新 產品 與 科 技 研 究 所 及 工 業 中 心 的 工 程師 、 治 療 師 及 設 計 師 。傳 統 治 療 活 動 機 能 損 傷 的 患 者( 如 中 風 病 人 ) 主 要 是 透 過 一 對一 的 模 式 , 即 由 物 理 治 療 師 提供 物 理 治 療 服 務 。 無 論 是 物 理治 療 師 上 門 提 供 服 務 , 又 或者 病 人 到 醫 院 或 診 所 接 受 治療 服 務 , 都 往 往 受 制 於 治 療 師人 數 、 治 療 地 點 、 時 間 、 次 數和 輪 候 人 士 多 寡 等 因 素 。 有 見及 此 , 理 大 一 群 工 程 師 、 治 療師 及 設 計 師 共 花 了 一 年 時 間 ,共 同 研 製 出 一 套 集 多 種 治 療 模式 於 一 身 的 系 統 。 治 療 師 因 應 病 人的 需 要 , 輸 入 或 選 取 適 當 的 治 療 模式 , 透 過 互 動 遊 戲 來 達 到 治 療 的 效果 。 有 別 與 傳 統 儀 器 的 被 動 模 式 ,這 系 統 需 要 病 人 運 用 本 身 的 意 向 而自 主 控 制 。 系 統 透 過 量 度 病 人 的 肌動 電 流 以 監 測 病 人 的 活 動 意 向 , 從而 令 病 人 自 主 控 制 整 個 運 動 訓 練 的過 程 , 並 配 合 「 輔 助 力 」 與 「 對 抗力 」 兩 種 方 式 進 行 訓 練 。 治 療 師 更可 透 過 系 統 取 得 病 人 的 訓 練 數 據 ,評 估 病 人 的 康 復 進 展 情 況 。工 業 中 心 在 研 究 項 目 的 參 與 工 作 包括 測 試 台 設 計 、 原 型 製 造 、 詳 細 工程 設 計 及 繪 圖 、 製 造 、 組 裝 及 最 後階 段 測 試 。AwardGold Medal and a specialaward from the Ministry ofEducation of Romania in the56 th Brussels Eureka第 五 十 六 屆 世 界 創 新 科 技 博 覽會 金 獎 及 羅 馬 尼 亞 教 育 及 研 究部 頒 發 特 別 獎工 業 中 心 簡 訊 9

ic spotlightS upporting STUDENT ProjectStudents undertaking study projects,assignments and final year projectsalso come to the IC for assistanceand support. We encourage studentsto use the facilities and equipment atthe Centre and apply what they havelearnt during classes and workshops toenhance and complete their projects andassignments. Except for services usingexpensive tooling and consumables,most of the services rendered by theIC to students are free of charge. Ofcourse students have to bring in theirown materials for fabrication andmanufacturing. Otherwise they have tobuy the material from the IC. If studentshave not received the IC training beforeor they are unable to do the fabricationand manufacturing by themselves,the IC can also offer a fabrication andmanufacturing service. A charge will beimposed for such service. The facilitybooking procedures are simple.Many students have successfully turnedtheir concepts and ideas into reality withthe advice and support from the IC. In2008, a degree year two student from theSchool of Design utilized the scanning,prototyping and plating facilities at theIC to produce a duck necklace. Thenecklace was originally an assignmentwork but it was eventually adoptedas one of the products marketed bySDWorks, a unique business platformestablished by the School of Design topromote students projects with greatcommercial potential. The necklace iscurrently available for purchase in HongKong and USA.The IC also provides a variety of supportservices to final year students duringtheir undertaking of final year project.Recently the students of BEng (Hons)in Mechanical Engineering successfullydesigned and developed a series of BioHome Products exhibited at the HongKong Houseware Fair 2010. Nearly halfof their products were supported by theIC. The products were well-received bythe students, department and the public.In addition to engineering discipline,final year students from the Institute ofTextiles and Clothing also approachedthe IC for help and support in producingspecial accessories for use in theirgraduation fashion show.許 多 學 生 都 懂 得 向 工 業 中 心 尋 求 支援 和 協 助 以 完 成 課 程 學 習 中 的 習 作和 項 目 。 工 業 中 心 非 常 鼓 勵 學 生 使用 中 心 的 設 備 和 技 術 以 實 踐 課 堂上 學 習 的 知 識 和 理 論 , 完 成 他 們 的習 作 和 項 目 。 學 生 只 需 直 接 預 約 工業 中 心 有 關 工 場 , 填 寫 簡 單 資 料 ,在 約 定 的 時 間 帶 備 所 需 材 料 親 自 到工 場 進 行 製 作 加 工 , 完 成 習 作 或 項目 。 工 業 中 心 一 般 不 會 向 學 生 收 取費 用 , 除 非 學 生 需 要 使 用 一 些 比 較昂 貴 的 設 備 、 工 序 或 特 別 材 料 , 又或 者 學 生 需 要 工 場 提 供 所 需 材 料 。假 如 學 生 沒 有 參 與 過 相 關 的 技 術 培訓 , 工 業 中 心 也 可 代 學 生 完 成 製 作加 工 工 序 , 學 生 需 要 支 付 製 作 加 工服 務 費 。45通 過 工 業 中 心 的 支 援 與 協 助 , 許 多學 生 都 成 功 地 把 概 念 轉 化 為 真 實 成品 。 在 2008 年 , 一 位 來 自 設 計 學 院的 二 年 級 學 生 在 工 業 中 心 導 師 的 協助 下 , 利 用 立 體 掃 瞄 、 快 速 成 型 及電 鍍 等 技 術 製 成 了 以 香 港 飲 食 文 化為 主 題 的 燒 鴨 吊 咀 頸 鏈 作 為 習 作 。4. 該 設 計 習 作 及 後 更 被 設 計 學 院 成 立的 商 業 平 台 SDWorks 挑 選 成 為 推 銷 產品 之 一 。 產 品 目 前 在 本 港 和 美 國 均有 發 售 。工 業 中 心 每 年 為 許 多 學 系 學 生 提 供畢 業 項 目 的 技 術 支 援 和 協 助 。 在 早前 舉 行 的 2010 香 港 家 庭 用 品 展 中 ,來 自 理 大 機 械 工 程 學 系 的 學 生 便 向公 眾 展 示 了 一 系 列 的 環 保 家 居 產 品設 計 , 深 受 讚 賞 和 關 注 。 參 與 的 學生 利 用 了 工 業 中 心 的 設 備 和 技 術 ,並 參 考 了 工 業 中 心 導 師 的 意 見 , 最後 製 成 參 展 的 產 品 。 其 中 共 有 約 半數 的 產 品 得 到 工 業 中 心 的 多 元 技 術支 援 。 除 工 程 學 系 外 , 工 業 中 心 亦為 其 他 學 院 學 系 提 供 支 援 , 例 如 紡織 及 製 衣 學 系 的 學 生 便 邀 請 工 業 中心 導 師 協 助 為 其 畢 業 作 品 展 製 造 特別 衣 飾 效 果 。ic spotlight“The facilities and machineries are toys to me.”To many students, the IC is just like amulti-disciplinary big factory helpingthem to realise their ideas, concepts anddreams. Mr Jan KUMBERNUSS, a PhDGerman student from the Department ofBuilding Services Engineering (BSE), isone of them.Jan is working on a research projectentitled ‘Magnetic Levitated Vertical AxisWind Turbine’. To complete his research,Jan needs to make a prototype modelto collect data. The IC definitely has aplace for him.Jan’s professional background is inarchitecture and he has only littleexperience in working with machinerieswhich was largely gained from hisundergraduate study more than ten yearsago. He was very happy to learn thatthe University has the Industrial Centreand he immediately approached the ICto ask for techincal support and advice.With the support from the IC staff, hewas able to have most of the parts andmodel manufactured. Yet he still spentmore than two months at the IC on thefabrication, assembly and testing of hismodel as he enjoys very much doing iton his own. He praised that the IC staffare very helpful and he enjoys verymuch discussing with the IC staff on theengineering design, manufacturing andmethodology. To enhance the stabilityand strength of his model, he has evenadopted architecture knowledge andskills into the construction of the modelframe. “The facilities and machineriesare toys to me,” said Jan. Obviously heis one of those who support hands-ondoing and training.Jan has just completed his prototypemodel and is currently running tests onhis model in China. ic spotlightS upporting INDUSTRIAL & COMMUNITY ProjectSimilar to academic departments, theIC also provides support to industryand the community as a means to stayabreast of the latest development andcontribute to the society. During theoutbreak of SARS in 2003, the IC wasapproached by many departments,institutions and associations to providetechnical support to projects preventingthe spread of SARS. One of the projectswas collaborated with PolyU Faculty ofConstruction & Land Use (FCLU) andConstruction Industry Institute (CII). Theproject is to build a three-storey drainagetest rig to closely investigate into thedesign, operation and maintenanceissues of drainage systems aimingat providing measures and solutionsto prevent the spread of SARS in thefuture.Invitations from industry to developnew products, processes, systemsand technology applications are notuncommon. The rich practical experienceof IC staff is undoubtedly an advantageto such collaboration. By working withand for industry, the IC gains a lot ofinvaluable experience and informationparticularly on the prevailing andupcoming trends in industry, technologyand society. If deemed appropriate,the IC will transfer industrial projects tostudent training. By doing so, studentswill be given a valuable opportunityto work with a real client, real case orproblem and with plentiful supply ofresource provided by the client.The IC has a long list of client, includingrenowned companies/institutions suchas Towngas, Garden Company Limited,Hong Kong Aero Engine Services Limited(HAESL), Hong Kong Disneyland andImmigration Department of HKSARGovernment. ic & industryLighting engineering graduates’ future燃 點 工 程 畢 業 生 的 未 來In March this year the IC provideda 14-day accredited engineeringtraining for a group of HKIE GraduateScheme A trainees from Towngas. Apartfrom undertaking training at differentworkshops, the trainees were givena special mission – to make a drillingmodule for a gas pipe fitting system.Different technology and engineeringpractice such as engineering design, hotmetal, sheet metal, welding, machining,CNC, etc. were systematically integratedinto the 14-day training. The traineesare expected to learn, understand andpractice different technologies, skillsand techniques. Throughout the trainingthey were guided to complete a drillingmodule tailor-made for a gas pipe fittingsystem used by Towngas.As the IC is an accredited trainingprovider of HKIE, its training is thereforerecognized under the HKIE GraduateScheme A Training. In addition toTowngas, the IC has been providingaccredited engineering training forvarious local renowned companiesand institutions including Hong KongAero Engine Services Limited, LabourDepartment, etc. The compact but welldesignedtraining provides the traineesa good opportunity to practice and applydifferent expertise to complete a smallscale engineering project under teameffort.Last year another group of trainees fromTowngas were given a mission to makea classic gas street lamp during the 14-day engineering training.▲▲ HKIE Graduate Scheme A traineesfrom Towngas undertaking training at theIC in March 2010. ic & communityNurturing school students’ entrepreneurship培 育 中 學 生 的 企 業 精 神►►Professor Alex WAI, Dean of the Facultyof Engineering and Associate Vice-Presidentgiving a technical talk at the Opening Ceremonyof the Wofoo Millennium EntrepreneurshipProgramme held on 23 January 2010 on behalfof The Hong Kong Polytechnic UniversityIndustrial Centre. 香 港 理 工 大 學 協 理 副 校 長及 工 程 學 院 院 長 衛 炳 江 教 授 代 表 理 大 工 業中 心 於 2010 年 1 月 23 日 假 和 富 千 禧 企 業 家 精神 計 劃 開 幕 典 禮 上 作 專 題 演 講 。◄◄More than 500 participants from 68 local secondaryschools joined the Opening Ceremony. 開 幕 典 禮 共 有 超過 五 百 名 來 自 六 十 八 間 中 學 的 中 學 生 參 加 。Around 500 secondary schoolstudents participated in theMillennium EntrepreneurshipProgramme organized by WofooSocial Enterprises and supported by anumber of organizations including theIndustrial Centre of The Hong KongPolytechnic University (PolyU). TheWofoo Millennium EntrepreneurshipProgramme is an annual competition forsecondary school students to learn moreabout business through a social studyproject with a designated theme relatingto cutting edge social policies. TheProgramme not only aims at equippingthe students with business intelligencebut more importantly nurturing theirsocial responsibility.“Glowing Life, Growing Opportunities”is the theme of this year’s Programme.Students are encouraged to innovatea manageable and effective businessproposal which is improving theefficiency and quality of daily life throughapplying science and technology withentrepreneurship concept. A total of 100teams coming from 68 local secondaryschools participated in this year’sProgramme. Each team will be assigneda mentor from either business sectorsor professional bodies. The mentor willoffer advice to the students throughouttheir investigation and developmentof topics and proposal, particularly inaspects including technology, marketing,resources, financial implication, etc.Technical talk, workshops and visitswill be organized for the participants tobroaden their horizon and understandmore on the business operation andtechnology development.Being as one of the supportingorganizations, the IC offered technicaltalk, workshop and six visits for theparticipating students. The technical talkand workshop were held on 23 Januaryand 6 February 2010 respectivelywhile the six visits to the Centre werearranged shortly after the Easterholidays. By participating in theseactivities, students were exposed tovarious concepts, technologies, projectsand applications related to engineering,design, technology and our lives andcommunity.The Programme’s first round of judgingwas held on 29 May 2010. ic & the China中 國 高 等 職 業 教 育 的 教 師 隊 伍 建 設中 國 的 經 濟 和 社 會 急 速 發 展 , 加 強了 各 界 對 高 素 質 技 能 人 才 的 迫 切 需求 。 目 前 , 全 國 高 等 職 業 教 育 院 校的 數 目 已 多 達 1200 所 , 它 們 肩 負 著為 國 家 經 濟 發 展 培 育 所 需 人 才 的 使命 。 然 而 , 高 職 院 校 如 何 在 競 爭 劇烈 的 高 等 職 業 教 育 中 取 得 優 勢 , 師資 隊 伍 建 設 是 其 關 鍵 要 素 。 沒 有 一支 高 素 質 的 教 師 隊 伍 , 就 不 可 能 有高 水 平 的 職 業 教 育 。於 歷 史 沿 革 , 香 港 的 教 育 模由 式 基 本 以 西 方 為 藍 本 。 香 港作 為 重 要 的 國 際 城 市 之 一 , 能 夠 經常 汲 取 不 同 國 家 的 文 化 、 社 會 、 教育 、 經 濟 等 的 發 展 進 程 、 特 色 及 其成 功 因 素 , 再 加 以 融 會 貫 通 。 這 些經 驗 和 心 得 對 我 國 的 高 職 教 育 有 重要 的 參 考 價 值 。有 見 及 此 , 香 港 理 工 大 學 工 業 中 心過 去 不 斷 為 內 地 院 校 提 供 各 類 師 資培 訓 服 務 , 而 近 年 更 因 應 社 會 需求 , 為 內 地 高 職 院 校 精 心 設 計 《 職業 教 育 課 程 開 發 研 修 班 》, 目 的 旨在 提 高 高 職 教 師 課 程 開 發 及 實 施 能力 , 加 強 師 資 隊 伍 的 建 設 , 促 進 高職 院 校 的 發 展 。▲▲ 上 課 學 習 的 樂 趣 能 有 多 大 ? 從 這 些 照 片 中 老 師 的 投 入 程 度 可 見 一 二 。 教 育 對 社 會和 國 家 影 響 深 遠 。 我 們 是 否 應 該 認 真 思 考 一 下 我 們 的 學 生 需 要 怎 樣 的 教 學 方 法 、 模 式和 內 容 , 而 並 不 只 是 我 們 有 沒 有 做 好 自 己 的 份 內 工 作 ?《 職 業 教 育 課 程 開 發 研 修 班 》 的 對象 為 國 內 高 職 院 校 的 領 導 、 系 主任 、 專 業 帶 頭 人 及 骨 幹 教 師 。 課 程結 合 現 時 職 業 教 育 發 展 面 臨 的 問 題與 挑 戰 , 深 入 探 討 職 業 教 育 辦 學 模式 、 校 企 合 作 模 式 、 人 才 培 養 模式 、 教 學 改 革 等 方 面 , 推 進 專 業 建設 , 教 學 方 式 , 隊 伍 建 設 和 管 理 制度 創 新 的 思 路 與 措 施 。 除 此 之 外 ,工 業 中 心 亦 會 因 應 參 與 院 校 的 特 色安 排 參 觀 相 關 的 職 業 教 育 機 構 , 讓學 員 可 以 借 鑒 和 汲 取 其 先 進 教 學 管理 經 驗 。 自 課 程 開 辦 以 來 , 已 有 不少 高 職 院 校 派 員 參 加 。 在 剛 過 去 的幾 個 月 , 我 中 心 分 別 為 來 自 內 蒙 古建 築 職 業 技 術 學 院 、 寧 夏 職 業 技 術學 院 、 哈 爾 濱 職 業 技 術 學 院 、 山 東交 通 職 業 學 院 的 教 師 開 辦 課 程 。每 次 培 訓 結 束 後 工 業 中 心 均 會 向 學員 進 行 反 饋 調 查 , 收 集 到 的 評 價 和意 見 不 但 十 分 正 面 , 而 且 極 具 啟發 性 。 學 員 高 度 評 價 工 業 中 心 開 辦的 課 程 , 尤 其 對 中 心 授 課 老 師 認 真負 責 的 教 學 態 度 與 敬 業 精 神 表 示 讚賞 。 此 外 , 學 員 更 一 致 認 為 培 訓 內容 豐 富 實 用 , 啟 發 良 多 , 課 程 編 排妥 當 , 教 學 方 式 新 穎 有 趣 。 通 過 分組 討 論 、 小 組 競 賽 、 課 堂 展 示 等 新穎 的 啟 發 性 教 學 方 式 , 不 但 更 新 學員 的 教 學 理 念 , 更 拓 寬 了 他 們 對 專業 建 設 及 課 程 開 發 的 思 路 。除 開 辦 《 職 業 教 育 課 程 開 發 研 修班 》 外 , 工 業 中 心 於 本 年 1 月 與 教 育部 、 華 夏 基 金 會 及 香 港 理 工 大 學 中國 商 業 中 心 合 作 , 為 22 所 內 地 中 專院 校 舉 辦 《 教 育 部 職 業 教 育 教 師 培訓 班 》。如 欲 更 詳 細 了 解 以 上 培 訓 課 程 , 可聯 絡 工 業 中 心 首 席 項 目 主 任 黃 德 輝先 生 。電 話 :(852) 2766-7594傳 真 :(852) 3149-8194電 郵 :icalvin@polyu.edu.hk18 IC Newsletter

ic & the China黃 老 師 博 客海 龜 與 魚很 榮 幸 能 在 《 工 業 中 心 簡 訊 》 新 開 闢 的 板 塊 裏 談 一 下 個 人 對 內 地 職 業 教 育 的 所 見 、 所 感 、 所 思 。 在 此 我 必須 先 感 謝 負 責 《 工 業 中 心 簡 訊 》 的 陳 嘉 燕 行 政 主 任 給 我 這 個 機 會 ; 或 許 應 該 是 陳 主 任 感 謝 我 才 對 , 因 為 我答 應 她 於 《 工 業 中 心 簡 訊 》 裏 投 稿 的 提 議 。前 時 間 參 加 了 一 個 職 業 教 育 論 壇 , 該 論 壇 邀 請 了 教 育 部 原 副部 長 周 遠 清 先 生 做 報 告 。在 報 告 裏 , 周 部 長 表 達 了 他 對 目 前 職 業 院 校 老 師 教 學 方 法 的觀 點 , 相 信 職 業 院 校 老 師 們 聽 了 周 部 長 的 話 後 會 感 到 很 不 舒服 , 又 或 不 認 同 。 周 部 長 說 : 目 前 中 國 高 職 高 專 院 校 , 包 括本 科 院 校 老 師 們 所 採 用 的 教 學 方 法 在 世 界 上 是 非 常 落 後 的 。我 聽 後 感 觸 很 深 , 而 且 很 有 共 鳴 。 雖 然 我 接 觸 過 不 少 非 常 敬業 的 內 地 老 師 , 這 些 老 師 也 有 很 多 優 點 值 得 我 學 習 , 但 就 教 學 方 法 而 言 , 大 部 分 內 地 老 師 所 使 用 的 教 學 方法 確 實 非 常 落 後 。 我 認 為 最 令 人 擔 憂 的 不 僅 僅 是 教 學 方 法 的 落 伍 , 而 是 不 少 老 師 不 自 知 , 甚 至 自 我 感 覺 很良 好 , 這 將 必 然 拖 著 教 育 教 學 改 革 前 進 步 伐 的 後 腿 。這 使 我 聯 想 到 一 則 故 事 : 海 龜 與 魚一 天 , 海 龜 在 深 海 裏 無 意 中 游 到 岸 上 , 發 現 岸 上 有 蝴 蝶 、 小 昆 蟲 、 小 兔 子 、 小 松 鼠 、 還 有 雀 鳥 等等 。 於 是 , 海 龜 游 回 深 海 裏 告 訴 不 同 的 魚 , 海 龜 發 現 有 三 類 型 的 魚 :第 一 類 型 的 魚 : 不 相 信 海 龜 所 描 述 的 岸 上 情 況 ;第 二 類 型 的 魚 : 不 關 心 海 龜 所 描 述 的 岸 上 情 況 ;第 三 類 型 的 魚 : 很 積 極 發 問 並 盡 力 多 了 解 岸 上 的 真 實 世 界 。為 什 麼 我 會 聯 想 到 以 上 這 則 故 事 呢 ? 當 我 在 內 地 與 一 些 老 師 討 論 到 教 學 方 法 時 , 同 樣 遇 到 三 類 型 的 教 師 :第 一 類 型 的 教 師 : 不 相 信 世 界 上 有 各 式 各 樣 的 教 學 方 法 ;第 二 類 型 的 教 師 : 不 關 心 世 界 上 有 各 式 各 樣 的 教 學 方 法 ;第 三 類 型 的 教 師 : 很 積 極 去 了 解 並 希 望 能 多 學 習 有 效 的 教 學 方 法 。我 在 香 港 理 工 大 學 工 業 中 心 為 內 地 職 業 院 校 教 師 們 講 課 時 , 使 用 了 一 些 常 用 的 教 學 方 法 , 但 這 些 教 學 方 法對 內 地 老 師 們 而 言 卻 非 常 新 鮮 , 老 師 們 的 反 響 異 常 強 烈 。 以 下 是 一 些 內 地 老 師 在 香 港 參 加 研 修 班 後 對 教 學方 法 的 感 悟 :筆 者 : 讓 人 感 動 的 是 , 我 發 現 不 少 內 地 老 師 在 香 港 研 修 後 , 回 到 自 己 的 崗 位 上 確 實 在 教 學 方 法 上 下了 不 少 功 夫 , 努 力 把 培 育 學 生 工 作 做 得 更 好 。►► 轉 下 頁工 業 中 心 簡 訊 19

ic & the China黃 老 師 博 客筆 者 : 有 非 常 多 內 地 老 師 表 示 在 研 修 期 間 所 接 觸 到 的 教 學 方 法 無 論 是 自 己 上 學 時 還 是 在 教 學 過 程 中都 不 曾 遇 到 過 。 他 們 表 示 以 往 通 常 只 使 用 傳 統 滿 堂 灌 的 教 學 方 式 。筆 者 : 我 曾 遇 到 過 不 少 職 業 院 校 老 師 埋 怨 其 學 生 上 課 時 睡 覺 。 我 個 人 的 觀 點 是 : 如 果 學 生 在 課 堂 上睡 覺 , 超 過 99.9999% 的 責 任 是 咱 們 老 師 的 。試 想 , 倘 若 劉 德 華 站 在 講 台 上 學 生 會 睡 覺 嗎 ? 如 果 小 沈 陽 站 在 講 台 上 學 生 會 睡 覺 嗎 ? 為 什 麼 咱 們 老師 站 在 講 台 上 學 生 就 會 睡 覺 呢 ? 所 以 , 當 我 講 課 時 若 發 現 有 學 生 睡 覺 , 我 首 先 會 檢 討 自 己 為 什 麼 不能 誘 發 學 生 的 學 習 興 趣 , 而 不 是 光 去 埋 怨 學 生 。只 懂 埋 怨 病 人 的 醫 生 是 無 能 醫 生 ; 能 腐 朽 化 神 奇 的 醫 生 是 卓 越 醫 生 。只 懂 埋 怨 學 生 的 教 師 是 無 能 教 師 ; 能 腐 朽 化 神 奇 的 教 師 是 卓 越 教 師 。筆 者 : 這 位 老 師 說 :「 想 想 我 以 前 的 傳 統 授 課 方 式 , 真 的 很 同 情 學 生 ……」我 認 為 看 到 別 人 的 不 足 非 常 容 易 , 但 能 看 到 自 身 不 足 卻 非 常 不 簡 單 。 這 位 老 師 能 看 到 自 身 不 足 確 實非 常 不 簡 單 。 若 咱 們 老 師 都 能 看 到 自 身 不 足 並 努 力 不 斷 改 進 , 教 育 教 學 改 革 的 進 程 將 一 日 千 里 。教 師 隊 伍 優 劣 是 院 校 能 否 發 展 壯 大 的 關 鍵 要 素 ; 正 如 醫 院 裏 醫 生 隊 伍 優 劣 決 定 醫 院 能 否 發 展 壯 大 一 樣 。懂 不 懂 有 效 醫 治 病 人 , 取 決 於 醫 生 的 「 醫 術 」; 願 不 願 盡 力 醫 治 病 人 , 取 決 於 醫 生 的 「 醫 德 」。懂 不 懂 有 效 講 課 , 取 決 於 教 師 的 「 才 」; 願 不 願 盡 力 講 課 , 取 決 於 教 師 的 「 德 」。黃 德 輝2010 年 5 月20 IC Newsletter
