7SPAccessories7. AccessoriesMP 204The MP 204 is an electronic motor protector, designedfor the protection of an asynchronous motor or a pump. The motor protector consists of:• a cabinet incorporating transformers and electronics• a control panel with operating buttons and displayfor reading of data. The MP 204 operates with two sets of limits:• a set of warning limits and• a set of trip limits. If one or more of the warning limits are exceeded, themotor continues to run, but the warnings will appear inthe MP 204 display. Some values only have a warning limit. The warning can also be read out by means of theGrundfos R100 remote control. If one of the trip limits is exceeded, the trip relay willstop the motor. At the same time, the signal relay isoperating to indicate that the limit has been exceeded. Many monitoring optionsThe MP 204 monitors the following parameters:• Insulation resistance before start-up• Temperature (Tempcon, Pt sensor and PTC/thermalswitch)• Overload/underload• Overvoltage/undervoltage• Phase sequence• Phase failure• Power factor• Power consumption• Harmonic distortion• Operating hours and number of starts.ApplicationsThe MP 204 can be used as a stand-alone motorprotector. The MP 204 can be monitored via a Grundfos GENIbus. The power supply to the MP 204 is in parallel with thesupply to the motor. Motor currents up to 120 A arepassed directly through the MP 204. The MP 204protects the motor primarily by measuring the motorcurrent by means of a true RMS measurement. TheMP 204 disconnects the contactor if, for example, thecurrent exceeds the preset value.Secondarily, the motor is protected via temperaturemeasuring by a Tempcon sensor, a Pt100/Pt1000sensor and a PTC sensor/thermal switch. The MP 204 is designed for single- and three-phasemotors. In single-phase motors, the starting and runcapacitors are also measured. Cos is measured inboth single- and three-phase systems.Fig. 21 MP 204Five sizes of single-turn transformers, 120-999 A.Note: Monitoring of motor temperature is not possible whensingle-turn transformers are used.Fig. 22 Single-turn transformersProduct numbersTM03 1471 2205TM03 2033 3505BenefitsThe MP 204 offers these benefits:• Suitable for both single- and three-phase motors• Dry-running protection• Overload protection• Very high accuracy• Made for submersible pumps.ProductProductnumberMP 204 96079927R100 62533386
