Once all the students have wet their paper towels, the teacher willdemonstrate how to place their two seeds into the paper towel, and then toseal the bag half way. Each student will draw a picture in their journal <strong>of</strong>the seed in the plastic bag, and label each part. Make sure to list the partsthe students should label.<strong>The</strong>n, each student will take a piece <strong>of</strong> masking tape, and tape their plasticbag to a window in the classroom.Students will record their observations along with a drawing each day.Students will be given a handout that identifies all the in<strong>for</strong>mation thatshould be in their journal everyday. Each day, make sure to list each part<strong>of</strong> the plant that should be labeled.When the seed has begun to sprout, it is time <strong>for</strong> the sprout to betransplanted into a cup. Ask <strong>for</strong> two student helpers to help distribute thecups and the markers. <strong>The</strong> students will write their names on the cups.Each student will come up to the front <strong>of</strong> the class one at a time, andcarefully fill his or her cup with plotting soil. <strong>The</strong>n, the students willcarefully take the sprout and plant it in the cup filled with potting soil. <strong>The</strong>students will put a thin layer <strong>of</strong> soil on top <strong>of</strong> the sprout. <strong>The</strong>n, the studentswill water their plants. Each table will have a cup <strong>of</strong> water, and pipettes todo so.How willstudents beassessed tomake sure theyare able toper<strong>for</strong>m theobjectives?Students will continue to record their observations <strong>of</strong> the plant along with adrawing, until the plants have fully bloomed. Students will also water theirplants every day, at this time.Objective 1: Students will be able to create a labeled illustration <strong>of</strong> a plantthat includes leaves, stem, roots, and flowers during daily observations <strong>of</strong> alive plant growing from a seed. Students must spell all parts <strong>of</strong> the plantcorrectly and label all elements possible.Assessment 1: Students will be asked to turn in their journals thatrecorded the growth <strong>of</strong> their plants. <strong>The</strong>ir labeled drawings, which they dideach day, will be indicative the knowledge <strong>of</strong> the parts <strong>of</strong> the plant.Objective 2: Students will be able to describe the role each part <strong>of</strong> theplant plays in supporting its life.Assessment 2: After reviewing the website and conducting the lab, eachstudent will be given a piece <strong>of</strong> paper on which they will match the jobs <strong>of</strong>the plant parts to their respective plant parts.Objective 3: Students will be able to properly order the stages <strong>of</strong> the lifecycle <strong>of</strong> a plant when given their descriptions.Assessment 3: Students will be given a piece <strong>of</strong> paper with each stage <strong>of</strong>the life cycle <strong>of</strong> a plant written out. <strong>The</strong>se stages will not be in order, andstudents will have to number the stages in the correct order.
