5How toapplyThere are two routes into Shell: anassessed internship (open to studentsin any year of study), or a place onthe <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Programme</strong> (open tograduating students or anyone with lessthan three years’ working experience).18


2ONLINE ASSESSMENTIf you are successful at the initial application stage,you will receive an email notification with instructionson how to complete an online assessment. This hastwo parts. Each must be completed and submittedwithin 7 working days.1ONLINE APPLICATIONGo to www.shell.com/graduate and choose AssessedInternship or Shell Recruitment Day for the <strong>Graduate</strong><strong>Programme</strong>. Complete an application form and uploadthe latest copy of your CV/Resume.Before applying for an opportunity, make sure youare eligible to work in the country where it is based.Part 1Competency-based questions.These take approximately 20minutes to complete and arenot timed. Once completed andsubmitted, you’ll receive an emailnotification of the outcome. You willneed to complete this first part ofthe assessment successfully beforeproceeding to the second part.Part 2A decision-making andproblem-solving task.The second part of the onlineassessment consists of two tasks:a decision-making task that assesseshow you respond to commonsituations that Shell graduates mayface; and a problem-solving taskthat assesses your capacity forsolving numerical problems.The decision-making task is nottimed, but the problem-solving taskhas a time limit of 18 minutes.This assessment should take around45 minutes to complete, in total.19


4Assessed Internship or SHELL RECRUITMENT DAYIf you have applied via the first route for an internship and pass theinterview, you could see yourself on our assessed internship.Or if you have applied via the second route and pass the interview youcould be invited for the final assessment at a Shell Recruitment Day.3AN InterviewIf you are successful in passing thesecond online assessment, you maybe invited to an interview.This takes place either face-tofaceor over the telephone. It is anopportunity for you to tell us moreabout why you are applying to Shell,your achievements, the challengesyou’ve faced and how you’vedemonstrated the qualities we’relooking for.Step 4AAn Assessed InternshipYou can apply for an assessedinternship if you have yet to reach yourfinal degree year. It will give you theopportunity to see what it’s like to workfor a global company.You will be guided by a mentor anda supervisor throughout. They willconduct a formal mid-term reviewfollowed by a final review where you’llbe asked to complete an online exerciseand written task. You’ll also be askedto prepare a final presentation aboutyour project before a final interview.Following a successful internship,you could be offered a place on our<strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Programme</strong>Step 4BShell Recruitment DayIf you are applying for a placeon our <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Programme</strong>,we will invite you to an afternoonof interactive sessions, for furtherinsights into Shell. During thesesessions you will not be assessed.The next day we will give you arange of assessed exercises tocomplete. This includes an onlinesimulation of working on a realproject, a written exercise, groupdiscussion, self-reflection interview,a case study including a presentationand a final interview.20

6TIPS FORSUCCESSMaking that first step in yourcareer is a challenge for manydifferent reasons.If there’s strong competition for places, howyou present yourself and your particularstrengths is vital. Ensuring you have a greatCV/Resume and that you’re fully preparedwhen invited for an interview is important.22


Writing a gREAT CVWhen you complete your applicationform, you’ll need to upload a recordof your personal, education andwork history – your CV/Resume. Itis a platform to demonstrate yourachievements and a key step in anyapplication process.Here are a few handy tips tohelp you present yourself inthe best possible way:Make sure your CV/Resume isup to date.Try to restrict it to two pagesand keep the layout simple.Use headings like “Education”and “Career History” tohighlight different sections.Don’t just make generalstatements about your qualities –support them with evidence. Forexample, explain what you mayhave done to date that illustratesthe qualities you have.Personal detailsYour full name, address, email addressand phone number are most important.Education detailsList these in reverse chronological order, withyour most recent education first.
