DRAFT CCSDS RECOMMENDED STANDARD FOR CCSDS BUNDLE PROTOCOL SPECIFICATION5 SERVICES BP REQUIRES OF THE SYSTEM5.1 RELIABLE STORAGE REQUIREMENTSBP nodes require access to a reliable storage service.NOTES1 This storage mechanism may be in dynamic memory or via a persistent mechanism suchas a solid-state recorder and may be organized by various means to include file systems.2 The implementation of this storage can be shared among multiple elements of thecommunication stack so that reliability mechanisms at multiple layers do not have tomaintain multiple copies of the data being transmitted.3 Volume of storage required and duration of storage are mission- and implementationdependent.5.2 UNDERLYING COMMUNICATION SERVICE REQUIREMENTS5.2.1 Each convergence layer protocol adapter is expected to provide the followingservices to the bundle protocol agent:a) sending a bundle to all bundle nodes in the minimum reception group of the endpointidentified by a specified endpoint ID that are reachable via the convergence layerprotocol; andb) delivering to the bundle protocol agent a bundle that was sent by a remote bundlenode via the convergence layer protocol.NOTE – The convergence layer service interface specified here is neither exhaustivenor exclusive. That is, supplementary DTN protocol specifications(including, but not restricted to, the Bundle Security Protocol [BSP]) mayexpect convergence layer adapters that serve BP implementations conformingto those protocols to provide additional services.5.2.2 The following information shall be available to BP, either from the local operatingenvironment or from the underlying communication service provider.NOTE – The means by which this information is accessed by BP is implementationdependent.– forward advancing time that can be represented as ‘DTN time’ as defined by RFC5050 (reference [1]);– at least one long lived singleton EndpointID;– ability to create a unique creation time for BP traffic.CCSDS 734.2-R-1 Page 5-1 February 2012
DRAFT CCSDS RECOMMENDED STANDARD FOR CCSDS BUNDLE PROTOCOL SPECIFICATION5.2.3 The layer-(N-1) service shall deliver only complete layer-(N-1) service data units(bundles) to the receiving BP Node.5.2.4 The layer-(N-1) service shall provide integrity checking of the layer-(N-1) (bundle)service data units and shall discard layer-(N-1) service data units that are determined to becorrupted.5.2.5 BP assumes that, if necessary to the overall design, the layer-(N-1) service shallprovide a cap on the rate at which a sending BP engine can inject data into the layer-(N-1)service.NOTE – If such a capability is needed and is not provided by the layer-(N-1) service, itmay be possible to provide it as part of the BP interface to the layer-(N-1)service.CCSDS 734.2-R-1 Page 5-2 February 2012
