Malaysian Remote Sensing AgencyMinistry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI)BACKGROUND The <strong>ASEAN</strong> Experts Group on Remote Sensing (AEGRS) since 1993has requested for its status to be elevated to that of a Sub-Committee.In response, <strong>ASEAN</strong>-COST at its 34 th Meeting in 1997 requestedAEGRS to study the possibility of expanding its activity beyond remotesensing and to propose a framework for enhancing <strong>ASEAN</strong>collaboration in space technology applications for development for itsconsideration.<strong>ASEAN</strong>-COST at its 37 th Meeting agreed in principle for AEGRS to beelevated to an <strong>ASEAN</strong> Sub-Committee. <strong>ASEAN</strong>-COST at its 38 thMeeting formally endorsed the elevation of AEGRS to <strong>ASEAN</strong> Sub-Committee on Space Technology and Application (<strong>SCOSA</strong>). Malaysiawas designated the Interim Chairman of <strong>SCOSA</strong> and requested toprepare the Terms of Reference (TOR).

The <strong>ASEAN</strong> Member States notedthat six (6) countries, namelyCambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR,Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Namare taking part in theimplementation of the projectb. The <strong>ASEAN</strong> Member States alsotook note that Thailand willorganise regional Workshop inThailand in the second half of2009. The Member States willparticipate in the Workshop withtheir own cost on airfare andaccommodation.STATUSPending

Rice CropMonitoring andProductionPrediction(Viet Nam)ISSUESThe <strong>ASEAN</strong> Member States noted thatPakistan is agreeable to use radartechnology in combination with opticaltechnology for the project on the RiceCrop Monitoring and ProductionPrediction. The <strong>ASEAN</strong> Member Statesrequested Thailand to finalise theproject proposal by 31 December 2008.STATUSPending

The Asian Disaster ReductionCentre (ADRC) will send theimplementation schedule to the<strong>ASEAN</strong> Secretariat once itfinalised. The Member Statesrequested that the <strong>ASEAN</strong>Secretariat to follow-up withADRC regarding theimplementation schedule.STATUSOn-goingb. Since the implementationschedule has been delayed, the<strong>ASEAN</strong> Member States requestedthat the implementation of theproject should be started as soonas possible.

The <strong>ASEAN</strong> Member States notedthe implementation of SentinelAsia Phase- 2 (STEP-2) which iscurrently ongoing. One of thecompleted activities under STEP-2was the 3rd Sentinel Asia SystemOperation Training which washeld in Bangkok on 2-4September 2008, and organizedby AIT. The Training wasattended by most of <strong>ASEAN</strong>Member States and other AsiaPacific countries.b. The <strong>ASEAN</strong> Member Statesfurther noted that the new roundof mini projects 2008-2009 isunderway.STATUSOn-going
