An alternative to boresight is tilting the antenna 10 to 15 degrees. While the angle alignment will be correctfor some heights, it may also result inreadings that are under actual emission fieldstrengths at other heights. This could becompensated by making two scans, onewith the antenna parallel to ground and thesecond with a 10 or 15 degree tilt. The twomeasurements would be integrated. However, this doubles the scan time andrequires extra calculation. The simplest andmost accurate measurements are madewith bore sighting.Model 2071 Antenna TowerBore Sight Systemwith Centerline PolarizationETS-EMCO’s Model 2070-1, 2070-2 &2071 Antenna Towers are identical intheir rugged construction, toothed beltdrives and important safety features. These product’s utilize fiber optic signallines between controller and antennamast, eliminating a potential source ofEMI noise. The fiber optic lines arekevlar-reinforced to provide extraprotection against cable damage. The Model 2070-1 is manually polarized. The Model 2070-2 and 2071 featurecenterline air polarization whichenhances measurement accuracy. In addition, the Model 2071 featuresETS-EMCO’s patented Bore Sight systemthat provides direct antenna aim onto anEUT during scanning.FeaturesExclusive Model 2071 Bore Sight System(Patent #5,379,048)Mounting fixtures on towers normallyplace the antenna parallel to the groundplane. This means that as the tower raisesthe antenna above the EUT, measuredfield strength levels will be lower thanactual values. This problem is solvedwith ETS-EMCO’s innovative Model2071Bore Sight System which properlyaims the antenna at a designated test point.Bore sight operation is necessary to meetmeasurement standard requirementssuch as CISPR 16, VDE 0876 and ANSIC63.4-1992. Test Site HardwareAntenna TowerModel 2070-1, 2070-2, 2071directional antenna positioning whilevarying the angle between the antennaand the mast. The unit can be positionedto aim an antenna directly at the EUT, inaccordance with ANSI C63.4-1992,Clause 8.3.1.2. It can also be positionedat the ground plane underneath the EUT(halfway between the reflected imageand the EUT), in accordance to CISPR16-1, August, 1993, Clause 15.5.2.Centerline PolarizationAll three models include an off-set boom, which provides centerline polarizationthat facilitates measurement accuracy. When rotating from vertical to horizontalpolarization, the antenna’s centerlinemaintains a constant rotational axis. Testaccuracy is enhanced since vertical andhorizontal measurements are taken fromthe same point, instead of from twoseparate points. The Model 2070-2 and2071 feature a convenient air polarizationcapability that reduces test time.Polarization occurs in a 90 degree arc at arate of approximately 30 degrees persecond. An external source of compressedair at 410 kPa-550 kPa (4.1 bar-5.5 bar or 60 psi-80 psi) is required.Toothed Belt DriveA toothed belt drive provides smoothascent and descent of the carrierassembly. The belt is an industrial gradecomposite that was selected for strengthand longevity.Safety FeaturesFor safety, a magnetic brake stops carriertravel if power to the motor is interrupted. To prevent damage to antennaelements which may accidentally rotateinto the ground plane or ceiling duringpolarization, the Model 2090 and 2091Controllers allow you to program twoupper and two lower limit settings. Thesesettings allow you to safely maximizeantenna scan height in either horizontalor vertical polarization – especiallyuseful with BiConiLogs TM , biconicals, logperiodics, and other antennas withprotruding elements.Rugged ConstructionETS-EMCO towers are constructed ofhigh density fiberglass-reinforcedpolymer square tubing. This material hasa high degree of immunity to deteriorationfrom extended exposure to sunlight, unlike PVC pipe. The square shape of thetubing prevents rotation and torsionalstress experienced with round pipe.Standard ConfigurationlTower Assemblyl Manual polarization (Model 2070-1)l Centerline Air Polarization (Model 2070-2)lllBore Sight with Centerline Air Polarization(Model 2071)10 m fiber optic cableManualOptionsHand Control Unit (HCU)The HCU is designed to manually operatemost current ETS-EMCO Antenna Towersand Turntables.
