CITY OF KAMLOOPSJOB TITLE:<strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>Facilities</strong> <strong>Attendant</strong> - <strong>Aquatics</strong>PAY GRADE: 7NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORKPerforms semi skilled facilities maintenance and janitorial work <strong>of</strong> a varied nature under generaland limited supervision <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Recreation</strong> <strong>Facilities</strong> Maintenance Supervisor. Work involvesswimming pool operation; minor building maintenance; custodial and janitorial work at pools,monitoring and adjusting pool chlorine content, pH and water temperature; and directing andanswering Inquiries from the general public. The job involves year-round indoor work for themajority <strong>of</strong> the time, characterized by frequent and considerable temperature and humiditychanges; above average noise levels; occasional exposure to noxious odours and toxicchemicals; the possibility <strong>of</strong> more serious injury; and moderately heavy exertion. The incumbenthas significant responsibility for the safety <strong>of</strong> others in the installation <strong>of</strong> chlorine bottles andmust exercise ordinary care to ensure the safety <strong>of</strong> others. In addition, the incumbent mustexercise courtesy and some tact in non routine dealings with the general public. Close care andattention are required to prevent serious damage or loss to facilities.ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK1. Replaces spent chlorine bottles, back washes pool filter, cleans and disinfects pooldecks, washrooms, dressing rooms and tests pool water for chlorine, pH andtemperature levels, adjusting as necessary.2. Performs <strong>of</strong>f-season facility and equipment maintenance including minor building,painting and mechanical tasks.3. Provides assistance and direction to and supervision <strong>of</strong> all facility users to ensure thesafety <strong>of</strong> the public and the property.8. Checks and cleans washrooms, dressing rooms, stands and lobby, replenishing suppliesas required.9. Strips, washes, waxes and reseals floors as required.10. Answers inquiries and complaints from the general public in person or by phone.11. Shovels snow from outside entrances to public facilities.12. Reports janitorial and operating supply needs and receives shipments <strong>of</strong> materials andsupplies.13. Connects public address and scoreboard systems as required.14. Set ups and cleans up facilities for special events and swim meets.16. Performs related work as required.


REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND KNOWLEDGE1. A working knowledge <strong>of</strong> pool maintenance.2. An elementary knowledge <strong>of</strong> swimming pool filter plant operation.3. Ability to perform minor mechanical, electrical, and building repairs.4.
