Theyhave greatly helped me in my own effort to attain <strong>Christian</strong>maturity. I would like to suggest that you write these headingson a card and carry them with you, or perhaps copy them in thefront of your Bible. Use them to examine your own life. I hopeyou will find these tools helpful.TOTAL COMMITMENT TO JESUSCHRISTObjective 1.Explain the relationship of our position to Christ’sposition.We are born again by the Spirit of God. This cannot happenuntil we humbly repent of our sins and trust Jesus Christ as ourSavior. But, in addition, we must confess with our mouth thatJesus Christ is our Lord. “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesusis Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from thedead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).Kurios is the word for “lord” in the original language of theNew Testament. In that day, it was used of an important personsuch as the Roman emperor. In fact, by the time the book ofRomans was written, each Roman citizen had to go once a yearto the temple. There he threw a pinch of incense into the fire andshouted, “Caesar is Lord.” The word kurios meant absolute king,unreserved ruler. When the Jews translated the Old Testamentinto the Greek language, they chose kurios and used it where“Jehovah” appeared in the Old Testament.Do you see how meaningful it is for a <strong>Christian</strong> to say, “Jesusis Lord”? This means Jesus is king, master, and ruler. When wesay “Jesus Christ is Lord,” we are not just repeating a creed.We are saying: “For me, Jesus Christ has a unique and powerfulplace as my Master and sovereign ruler. He is my Lord.”
