84 C h r i s t i a n M a t u r i t yLESSON5Motivations TowardGrowthGrowing is an exciting and yet difficult task. I remember achild whose mother helped him plant some seed. She wantedhim to experience the process of growth. One day he came to hercrying, “Mother, my seed won’t grow. Every day I pull it up tolook at it and it isn’t growing!” Small wonder, you say. Yet, weare often like this. Growth requires time, proper diet, and goodsoil. For the believer, the soil is our human spirit and will. If youcooperate with the Holy Spirit, your growth will be natural andcontinuous.Parents and teachers often use rewards to encourage usto grow. These prizes are called incentives. An incentive issomething that moves us to action. The Bible shows us many ofthe incentives provided for <strong>Christian</strong> maturity. Some are rewardswe realize immediately as we begin to grow. Others are realizedonly after patient waiting. Yet, each of these incentives isimportant. This lesson is meant to introduce some of these Biblerewards to you.
