PRODUCT INFORMATION<strong>Multiple</strong> <strong>Spot</strong><strong>Thermometers</strong>Product temperature is one of theprime parameters for custody transferand accurate inventory measurementin liquid bulk storage tanks.Saab Tank Control offers the<strong>Multiple</strong> <strong>Spot</strong> Thermometer (MST)for accurate and reliable measuringof temperature.The <strong>Multiple</strong> <strong>Spot</strong> Thermometer (MST) isdesigned to measure the temperature ofbulk stored liquids to provide a tanktemperature profile and an average temperature.The MST contains a number of spotelements positioned at different heights inthe tank. Only those spots which are fullyimmersed are used to determine theproduct temperature.Rugged constructionThe <strong>Multiple</strong> <strong>Spot</strong> Thermometer consistsof a number of ceramic-platinum elementsPt100, each contained in an insulationcovering, bundled together andhoused in a flexible, gas-tight protectiontube made of convoluted stainless steel.The protection tubes have rigid stainlesssteel fittings at the top and bottom.The top fitting comprises a 305 mm(12 inch) long stainless steel pipe with250 mm (10 inch) length 1/2-inch BSPthread for fine adjustment of mountingflange position. The top fitting is also filledwith epoxy and serves as a gas-tightentry for the color coded electricalconnections.AccuracyThe <strong>Multiple</strong> <strong>Spot</strong> Thermometer uses1/6 DIN-elements (1/10 as option).This ensures accurate measurementeven under extreme conditions. Thenumber of spots can vary to suit theparticular application. The spots areequidistantly positioned to guaranteea precise measurement of the averagetank temperature. Generally a 2 inch entry is sufficient. Itssealed construction makes it possible to expose the MST to thetank contents without fear of damage by aggressive substances.The MST, installed in a closed thermowell, is recommended foruse in pressurized tanks since it allows installation and inspectionwithout taking the tank out of service.A number of installation alternatives are possible. Two ofthem are shown below. In alternative 1, the MST is positionedby means of an anchor weight standing on the tank bottom.Alternative 2 shows the MST inside a stilling well with a smallweight to strech it, 2-4 kg (4.4-8.8 lbs).SafeThe <strong>Multiple</strong> <strong>Spot</strong> Thermometer is a passive component, i.e.classified as a “simple apparatus”, and requires no specialelectrical safety precautions.1/2-in.
