Most of us join a club and/or a unit. However, there are alsodozens of positions to which the Potentate appoints select Nobles for the year he is in office. The Potentate evaluates theTemple’s need and the qualifications of the members in order to fill each position. Some positions, such as Emeritus, arehonorary and filled by Nobles who have previously successfully filled the appointed position for a long time.To make sure you are aware of these appointment positions, they are listed below. The fact that they are listed doesnot necessarily mean that there is an opening, just that the position exists. Some of the positions have prerequisites. If you areinterested in finding more about the duties involved and whether you would qualify for a particular position or positions, pleasecontact Dave Chernik, Chief Rabban, at dchernik@earthlink.net and put “Shrine Appointments” in the subject line to make sureyou pass the spam filter. Please note that when the position is listed as Chairman, there are also committee men positions available. For brevity, the individual committee members positions are not listed.APPOINTMENT POSITION2nd Ceremonial Master1st Ceremonial MasterTemple DirectorMarshalCommandant of UnitsCaptain Of The GuardOuter GuardAssistant RecorderChief of StaffOratorOrganistChaplainMedical DirectorsPotentates Personal AidPotentate’s AdvisorsArmenian LiaisonFilipino LiaisonLiaison to Scottish Rite (by Valley)Banquet ChairmanChildren’s Xmas Party ChairmanTemple SantaDirectory EditorAl Malaikah EditorDonor Relations ChairmanFinancial AdvisorsElectronic Communications DirectorFire MarshalsGolf ChairmanHospital Screening Clinic ChairmanHospital Entertainment ChairmanHospitality ChairmanHousing ChairmanImperial Sessions ChairmanWSA Session ChairmanInsurance AdvisorsLegal AdvisorsMasonic Liaisons (General)Masonic Liaisons (by Lodge)Masonic Youth LiaisonsMasonic Youth DanceParade CoordinatorPhotographer(s)Public Relations DirectorPublic Relations Speakers CommitteePurveyor GeneralReceiver of DignitariesReceiver of Novices ChairmanRitual Cast DirectorSick and Visitation ChairmanTransportation ChairmanStrategic Planning Committee ChairmanTemple SecurityCaptain of the AidesExecutive AideSpecial AidesAidesAmbassadorsAmbassadors at LargeAmbassadors to Entertainment IndustryCircus Committee ChairmanMembership Committee ChairmanMembership Retention (by Region)Membership Restoration ChairmanMembership (by Region, see below)Director of Shrine ClubsRegional Shrine Club DirectorsREGION 1 - LOS ANGELESREGION 2 - LONG BEACH/ORANGEREGION 3 - VENTURA/SF VALLEYREGION 4 - PASADENAREGION 5 - LANCASTER/PALMDALEREGION 6 - BAKERSFIELDREGION 7 - SANTA MARIAREGION 8 - HEMET/SAN JACINTOREGION 9 - SAN BERNARDINO/RIVERSIDEREGION 10 - YUCAIPA/REDLANDSREGION 11 - BARSTOW/YUCCA VALLEYREGION 12 - PALM SPRINGS/PALM DESERTREGION 13 - THOUSAND OAKSREGION 14 - LOMOC/SANTA YNEZAl Malaikahan - August 2012Dear Noble,Lady Jan and I would like to invite you to join usand a group of fellow Shriners in discovering the treasuresalong Russia’s storied Volga River. Everyone is welcome!Thank heavens you don’t have to pronounce it to eat it. What is it? This is probably the most asked question.Best described as round pancake balls, Aebleskiver are a fun alternative to the traditional pancake breakfast.Served with raspberry jam and powdered sugar (the traditional way) or create your own version, using butterand syrup, topped fruit. Yummy!Where does Aebleskiver come from? Well here is the onelegend straight from the mother of the Publisher’s former girlfriend!(That was 27 years ago and another story) I was told this tale whenin Denmark eleven years ago while competing and representing AlMalaikah at the World Triathlon Championships. I don’t know if it’strue but Mrs. Sorenson would never lie to me would she? She toldLady Kathryn and I that back in the good old days, when the Vikingswere roaming up and down the coasts of Europe and the waters of theAtlantic, one band of these Vikings had been particularly hard hit inbattle, so, when they got back on their ship with their horn helmetsand shields all dented and banged up, they decided to have one oftheir favorite dishes to help them regain their strength. This meal waspancakes! In those days they did not have modern conveniences such as frying pans, so, they greased their shields andpoured the pancake batter on them right over the fire but, guess what?! Aebleskiver! All I know is that Aebleskiverhelps power the Danish triathlon team too.If you can’t to travel to Denmark to enjoy Aebleskiver, you can do the next best thing by coming out and enjoyingthe company of your fellow Shriners and enjoy Aebleskiver in Glendora. In Memoriam“God rested them in Peace”To the land of promised rest,Their work is done and the setting sunHas sealed their life’s request. They have left this earthly strandFor the house beyond the sea,Though the past is gone,They will still live onTo us all- Sweet is our memory.www.almalaikah.comHubert E.
