Through <strong>the</strong> exchange of roles – <strong>the</strong> bl<strong>in</strong>d gui<strong>de</strong> can „see“ <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> dark, <strong>the</strong> visitors are “bl<strong>in</strong>d“ – <strong>the</strong> emotionalimpact is stronger; <strong>the</strong> visitors ga<strong>in</strong> an experience that leads to reflection, social bor<strong>de</strong>rs get reduced, ignorancegets changed <strong>in</strong>to openness and <strong>in</strong>terest and pity turns <strong>in</strong>to respect.<strong>Dialogue</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Dark</strong> is an <strong>in</strong>cubator that aims for social <strong>in</strong>tegration of bl<strong>in</strong>d and o<strong>the</strong>r marg<strong>in</strong>alized people byoffer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m a platform to present <strong>the</strong>ir skills, potentials and personality, a chance to ga<strong>in</strong> more self-confi<strong>de</strong>ncethrough a challeng<strong>in</strong>g job and <strong>in</strong><strong>de</strong>pen<strong>de</strong>nce through a self-earned salary.Thousands of guest-book comments reflect <strong>the</strong> impression <strong>the</strong> exhibition has on its visitors - <strong>the</strong>y are moved by<strong>the</strong>ir experience and are positively impressed by <strong>the</strong> gui<strong>de</strong>s. Survey results, ask<strong>in</strong>g visitors about <strong>the</strong>ir experience,show that 96% of <strong>the</strong> visitors to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Dialogue</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Dark</strong> exhibition th<strong>in</strong>k it is "of great importance to <strong>the</strong> society”1,80% of <strong>the</strong> visitors to <strong>the</strong> exhibition stated <strong>the</strong>y believed that a visit to <strong>the</strong> exhibition assists <strong>in</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g attitu<strong>de</strong>stowards <strong>the</strong> handicapped population <strong>in</strong> general and not only towards <strong>the</strong> bl<strong>in</strong>d population, 98% of <strong>the</strong> visitors stated<strong>the</strong>y would warmly recommend to friends to visit <strong>the</strong> exhibition.Bus<strong>in</strong>ess WorkshopIn <strong>the</strong> <strong>Dialogue</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Dark</strong> workshops, <strong>the</strong> sightless environment forces <strong>the</strong> participants to <strong>de</strong>al with <strong>the</strong> sud<strong>de</strong>nwithdrawal of a key sense: vision. As <strong>the</strong>y rediscover <strong>the</strong>ir o<strong>the</strong>r senses, <strong>the</strong>y also awaken <strong>the</strong>m to new aspects ofpersonal power and perception. Listen<strong>in</strong>g and talk<strong>in</strong>g become vital, because <strong>in</strong> this environment those who don’tcommunicate cease to exist.So far <strong>the</strong>re have been over 300 workshops <strong>in</strong> more than 10 countries with over 4,500 participants. Through <strong>the</strong>irthree stages of immediate impact – rang<strong>in</strong>g from giv<strong>in</strong>g an impulse to reflect, prompt<strong>in</strong>g a mechanism to cope toprovid<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>spiration to change – <strong>Dialogue</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Dark</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess workshops leave a last<strong>in</strong>g impression forheightened awareness.Participants are triggered to reflect on <strong>the</strong>mselves and on <strong>the</strong>ir relation to <strong>the</strong>ir social environment which forms<strong>the</strong> basis for streng<strong>the</strong>ned <strong>in</strong>tra- and <strong>in</strong>terpersonal <strong>in</strong>telligence. On <strong>the</strong> one hand, this is realized by nurtur<strong>in</strong>g selfawarenessand heighten<strong>in</strong>g sensibility to own emotions and effective measures to <strong>de</strong>al with <strong>the</strong>m. On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rhand, <strong>Dialogue</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Dark</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess workshops prompt participants to turn towards <strong>the</strong>ir social environment tocope with <strong>the</strong> situation and to <strong>de</strong>velop an open m<strong>in</strong>dset as well as trust and empathy with o<strong>the</strong>rs.A survey based on <strong>the</strong> analysis of more than 300 questionnaires and a sample of 20 <strong>in</strong>terviews shows thatparticipants are <strong>in</strong>spired to enhance <strong>the</strong>ir way of <strong>in</strong>teract<strong>in</strong>g with o<strong>the</strong>rs and to pursue a more cooperative andcollaborative approach (43%), sensibilized <strong>in</strong> terms of self-awareness and streng<strong>the</strong>ned <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir self-confi<strong>de</strong>nce toface unknown environments (30%) and encouraged to <strong>de</strong>velop trust and empathy and to become more openm<strong>in</strong><strong>de</strong>dtowards <strong>the</strong>ir social environment (28%).Three out of four participants reported to have translated lessons learned <strong>in</strong>to an <strong>in</strong>creased self-awareness, aconsciousness for matters of communication, and more openness towards o<strong>the</strong>rs. Many felt to have anchored <strong>the</strong>lessons <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir subconsciousness or <strong>in</strong>tegrated <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir overall behavior.THE TESTIMONIALSThese exhibitions and workshops have received tremendous feedback wherever <strong>the</strong>y have been organized.
