Limited Quantity Exemptions (Ref. TDGR 1.17)Limited quantities are dangerous goods, other than explosives, that usually packaged atretail level for the average consumer and must be constructed of such standards to ensurethey do not leak during handling or transporting. The shipper must declare “limitedquantities”:If…1. Each means of containment is 30 kg orless,2. Solid dangerous goods and equal to orless volumes outlined in Schedule 1,column 6 of the TDGR,3. Liquid dangerous goods and equal toor less volumes outlined in Schedule1, column 6 of the TDGR,4. Dangerous goods in either a gas orliquid gas and equal to or less volumesoutlined in Schedule 1, column 6 ofthe TDGR,Then…• No documentation required, unless thegross mass of limited quantities isgreater than 500 kg offered by oneConsignor to one destination. Thedocument will then include the words,“Limited Quantity” or “Ltd. Qty”.• No training is required• No Labels required but means ofcontainment must be marked. “LimitedQuantity” or Ltd. Qty”.• No emergency response plans arerequired.• No accidental reporting required, unlessthe gross mass of limited quantities isgreater than 500 kg offered by oneConsignor to one destination.• “Limited Quantity” or Ltd. Qty.” marksare visibly displayed on consignment.NOTE: Shipper may elect to replace the “Limited Quantity” or “Ltd. Qty.” markswith a diamond shaped mark. The line forming the diamond shaped mark must bea black line with a width at least 2 mm. United Nations (UN) numbers must beincluded in the diamond and it must be big enough to include the United Nations(UN) numbers of all limited quantities within the consignment, if those UN numbersare different.
