Propitious signs gave way to brilliantresults on 16 January 2013, when Atrumincreased its JORC resource at Groundhog by astaggering 113 per cent to 338Mt across Indicated(106.9Mt) and Inferred (230.9Mt) categories.Approximately 85.3Mt is located no deeperthan 50m down and more than 80 per cent ofthe total coal resource is no deeper than 150m.Atrum expects to upgrade the resource furtherstill in March, following additional structural interpretationand modelling. “The results are justoutstanding, and that’s without the most recentdrilling information incorporated,” says Hobbs.“We’re anticipating that there’s a lot more goodnews to come.”Samples and studiesIn addition to dramatically increasing its resource,in December Atrum increased its landassets by more than 50 per cent through acquiringan adjacent property previously owned byPanstone Resources. Atrum purchased six coallicense applications covering 8,343 hectares andassociated historical exploration data. The acquisitionbrings Atrum’s total land held at Groundhogto 22,815 hectares.Atrum’s most recent positive news came in

Thecoal washability results for the first 10 compositesamples (of more than 800 gathered in total) confirmpremium semi-anthracite to anthracite rankingcoal. Analysis indicates that premium coal can beproduced at a 50% to 60% yield, for metallurgicalapplications in the steel and ferro-alloy industries.Further coal analysis is expected over the next sixmonths.There are many more results to wait on thisyear, with the scoping study, infrastructure report,resource model upgrade and conceptual marketinganalysis under way. After another drilling program,Atrum will begin looking into the feasibility study.“This is another year for information gathering,”remarks Hobbs.Perfectly placedBesides Groundhog, Atrum has three other lessdeveloped projects in British Columbia, all of themprospective for metallurgical coal: the 5,325-hectarePeace River Project; the 11,400-hectare NaskeenaProject; and the 3,000-hectare Bowron RiverProject. Because Atrum doesn’t have the resourcesto put equal effort into these as it’s putting intoGroundhog, it has contracted a company to makea work plan for the three properties. “We’re not aone-project company,” Hobbs stresses.
