In2011, more than 10 major mineral explorationprojects took place in the district and that isexpected to continue this year with copper andgold exploratory efforts.A short trip north of Fort St. James is MountMilligan, home to a copper and gold mine.With an estimated 22-year lifespan expected toproduce 60,000 mineral tonnes per day, andthe province’s first major mining explorationproject in more than a decade, the MountMilligan project is controlled by ThompsonCreek Metals Company (NYSE: TC; TSX: TCM).A growing mining company, Thompson CreekMetals has existing operations in the UnitedStates and Canada, with its portfolio spanningtwo molybdenum mines and a standalone metalroasting facility, and holding numerous indevelopmentmetals properties.Mount Milligan, an open pit copper goldmine, is now in its second year of constructionwith operations expected to begin later thisyear and full commercial production scheduledfor 2014. Assessment of Mount Milligan includestwo low-grade copper gold ore bodies atthe site.
