AES has been involved in this schemesince it was introduced in 2004 under the then VIPSbanner. The scheme is run in various local schools andthe students study for NVQ qualifications instead ofGCSE. The aim is to promote the use of foreign languagelearning and recognize its importance within business. The Meadowhead group was treated to Design, CMMand CNC machine tool demonstrations and the visitculminated in students practicing their language skills byasking Chloe Angus questions in French. The students really benefited from seeing how foreign languages areused within a modern, innovative business and the visit was deemed by the teachers as a resounding success.Pump CentreVisits to AESSEAL plcFor over five years now AES have been represented on the council of the Pump Centre. The council is made upof pump users from the UK water authorities and pump OEMs. The council meets four times a year at differentlocations around the UK. In March it was the turn of AES to host the meeting and “show off” its globalheadquarters. This was the first time at AES for many of the council members and all were suitably impressedwith what is considered by many as the best facility in the seal industry.Recent meetings had focused on the Water Authorities but recognized the power industry as an industry totarget. In April the Pump Centre held its first Power Producers Forum, again at Mill Close. This was attended bya number of Power Station representatives from around the UK who came together to discuss issues/ideas theyhave on pumps. Both existing and potential customers attended. ITT industries also attended the meeting togive a presentation on their products. Companies in both the Water and Power sectors have been and willcontinue to be valuable customers of AES.4 Oracle July 2009
